Fish Identification

Post by UncleJose »

Finally got a chance to fish, even if it was for only an hour. Went out to sunset cliffs and managed to get a toad of a surf perch and the second one is a new species for me. My guess is some kind of perch? Anyone happen to know the name of it?

Thanks in advance!

weird. the pics changed order when I view on my phone...

the silver/green one is a Barred surf perch
The other one is a Black perch (dark mustache, blue anal fin). and they are sometimes dark, sometimes silvery/green and even have blotchy coloring...but the blue anal fin and dark mustache are east to spot.

Ah ok. That’s what I thought it was at first but after doing a quick google search and from what I saw, I thought they had stripes on them. Is there a difference in male and females or is it just some have stripes and some don’t?

2nd seems black perch, although a little too silver.

Black perch "Easily identified by a large patch of enlarged scales between the pectoral and pelvic fins." Looks exactly like that in your picture.
