Surf City=Slab City?
Started the day by finding only 2 sand crabs, so I went with the old stand by.... Dried, frozen blood worms... I first tried Seal Beach for no bites on the SCs or BWs.. After wasting a couple of hours there, I made a run to Huntington Beach... Good choice... After a few misfires with 2 dinky BSP, I ...

First bean of the year, and some others...
Last week I got the first bean of the year, using SC. Most SCs are very small at this time of the year, but I was lucky enough to find a bed of large SCs. Was going for perch that day but got a beanie. Kinda small but a first is a first.

Crystal Pier 2024 (Pics Added)
I’m staying at the cottages on Crystal Pier for a week.. It’s a family trip with the Son and Grandkids joining us for the 3 Memorial Day weekend.. My wife and I came down yesterday and will be leaving next Wednesday… I’ll be surf fishing AMs 5-7 or 8… And maybe other times if the kids want to ...

Re: Work sucks, butt….
Nice work on the hali. I've targeted them at times at Coronado but yet to get one. Occasionally, hit on some decent croaker & corbina there but not on sand crabs; usually blood worms or ghost shrimp. Never found any crabs at that beach, lots of clams though. Lots of small crabs & some too big, like ...

Smalls and golf ball size.. The smalls are useable, if you put a couple on a hook….

Hermosa PB Corbina
I got to fish with my youngest son yesterday afternoon. We found some soft shells at the Hermosa/Manhattan border. After about 30 min I glanced over my shoulder to see him get bit in close. I didn't see it until he beached it... 22 inches! A quick photo, then released strong. My son was all smiles ...

6/1 session
Spent a few hours Saturday afternoon casting LC and swim baits. Salad was manageable. All I got was a short hali.

6/8 - 6/9
Noticed that red tide cleared from Encinitas / Cardiff area. Tried my luck both saturday and sunday afternoon / evening. Saturday I got skunked, sunday I got a sand bass. Even with weedless set up, there was plenty of salad to deal with on both days.

A Calamity of Errors....
....with one nice fish.
That pretty much sums up my evening on the sand.
During the summer, we go to the beach as a family every Friday afternoon with a group of other families. It's mostly just hanging out, but I always bring a rod or two so I can toss a few casts when the opportunity presents ...

Re: Pismo-Morro Bay Fishing
I’ve fished pismo a few times. Surf perch is the main targeteith lots of numbers but small. Same set up as here.
Striped bass are known to show. So you could dedicate jerk baits etc and “ignore” the perch.
There’s guys that get halibut up there on swim baits around Avila beach. I haven’t tried it ...

Re: Pismo-Morro Bay Fishing
Check out Hook2Cook on Youtube. He's a central coast angler with a lot of good videos. I grew up in Santa Ynez and lived in the SLO/Pismo area for a number of years, I just wish I was more into fishing instead of partying back then, otherwise I'd have more advice for you!

Re: Picky corbina and hot perch summer
Well, I finally landed one of those picky corbina this morning. I hooked up in a farther out trough, just like others mentioned on this thread. Put up a fun fight. CnR.

Re: Picky corbina and hot perch summer
Landed an 18" spotfin this past weekend. Put up a great fight. Also landed a few corbina that put up some nice fights as well. BSPs aplenty within 20 yds, while the croakers are biting further out.

Re: Fish Identification
2nd seems black perch, although a little too silver.
Black perch "Easily identified by a large patch of enlarged scales between the pectoral and pelvic fins." Looks exactly like that in your picture.
