Corbina are still around

Howdy folks. I haven't been fishing much, but have a a few recent opportunities to visit the beach. The water is colder, but I still saw some beans in the surf. My wife got a new job at Scripps. Today they gave her a tour of the pier, and she sent me a picture of this huge school.

Oh man… I haven’t fished in over a month, and won’t be able to, for a couple more weeks… I’m missing the best part of the season… Congrats on your wife’s new job..

You sure those are not mullet? I was talking to someone who said there were gobs of mullet on a north county beach, even beaching themselves. This is about the time of year they spawn.

Man, I hope those are corbina

My fishing buddies are reporting that Corbina have been showing up from the Redondo Beach Pier to Palos Verdes the last week, or so. But like Butch, I haven't been able to get out.

It sounds like you had an exciting day at the beach, especially with your wife's new job at Scripps! The Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier, where she got her tour, is a notable research facility and a great spot for observing marine life. It's fascinating that she saw a huge school of fish; such sightings can be quite common in that area, especially with the colder water bringing in different species. [Perch killer]

They seem to be hanging out near the piers here in SD. That's where you can still find lots of sand crabs. Not so much on the other open beaches, hard to find any. When able to get out this past month a few times, I've focused on the PB pier area. Been good for a few spot fins & lately quality size perch, 10 - 12"+ models. But, for all the crabs around there, haven't run into any beans and got into the other good size fish on other baits. Still think the availability of sc's there has drawn the fish in and they'll hit whatever bait is put in front of them.

I did a couple of sessions at Mission, same baits, etc. to compare. Very poor, a skunk or otherwise just small perch nibblers. The bigger problem this past week was the kelp & grass in the water at all beaches from that combo north/south swell. Conditions were impossible to fish, or almost so, at many beaches.
