Lithium Battery Warning
Hey all,
Just a Public Service Announcement kind of thing. I got home last weekend from fishing the bay, emptied my car, cleaned my gear and was so tired I basically just ate and went to bed. I had left a few non-essential items in my car and thought nothing of it.
I got up the next morning to take my step-daughter to work and noticed that the windows of the car seemed extra tinted. I opened the door to find this scene. I had left a small Mophie Power Bank on my front seat thinking nothing of it. It was not plugged in, dry, and not hot or swollen. (I take my batteries very seriously, but apparently not enough). Long story short my car has been totaled. I don't want anyone else to experience this. I chose this particular case to charge my phone after getting it recommended to my by the ATT store. Letting me know it was the most reliable.
I am absolutely sick over the experience. The silver linings being that normally I would have stored it in my garage (house is ok), nobody was hurt, and the car was fully insured. I have since purchased Lithium Battery Bags to keep them in when I am not using them. I hope that this can help someone out there as I never thought that it would happen to me. Cheers!
P.S. Videos delayed for the week unfortunately, but I did get to be on the San Diego Bass Fishing Podcast this week with Bruce Smith. It was an absolutely awesome time and I think made for a great watch/listen. I'll put the link below in case you're interested.

Re: Lithium Battery Warning
Damn! Imagine if a window was cracked. Whole car would have probably ignited. Glad your safe and the outcome wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

Re: Lithium Battery Warning
Batteries are something that we tend to ignore and they can be an issue. I used to make devices that went into automobiles and I can't tell you how many battery issues I ran into. Mostly they would swell up in heat ( The dashboard of a car gets quite hot ) and the batteries would start to swell, this can be related to a situation where it is releasing Hydrogen gas, which is very flammable. I'm happy you and the family are ok and thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention.

Re: Lithium Battery Warning
Super scary stuff! I take all of my batteries very seriously and since I posted this the car has officially been declared a total loss by insurance. No bueno.

Re: Lithium Battery Warning
So sorry to hear what happened to you. That is crazy!
Just looking at the pics and the damage done, was enough for me to move my Bixpy battery for my kayak out
to a clear area in the garage just to be safe.

Re: Lithium Battery Warning
This always seemed like something that happens to someone else. Apparently it's rare but does happen.
