Best way to catch bass

Post by diitrii »

Hello everyone, I'm a rookie at fishing, I've been wondering what the best ways for catching a largemouth bass may be. I've caught one at Lake Martinez in Arizona on a pier using a simple hook and a worm, but it feels like that doesn't work for the ones out here. Been mainly using live bait and having it run along the bottom, but I have a friend who has one of the frogger lures and he caught 2 today. Is it better to use an artificial bait skimming along the surface for bass, or is live bait with a size 1 or 1/0 hook still good?

There is no *best way* brother, but being a beginner you should think about looking up Dropshot on YouTube. A dropshot rig with a 4 inch plastic worm is pretty reliable and forgiving. It's how I started my kids, and still use it myself on occasion when nothing else works. Just my .02.

My advise would be keep it simple.
You’re on the right track with the night crawler. You can add a float for fish suspended or feeding up.
You can split shot a plastic worm, or senko.
Learn to read water, pay attention to what’s going on around you. Look for feeding birds, there after bait. If there’s bait there’s fish.

Learn the dropshot rig and the wacky rig. Between those two techniques, get a pack of 6” roboworm and a pack of 5” senkos. YouTube is a great resource for learning about it. Even on the worst fishing days I feel confident I could catch fish on a dropshot roboworm or a wacky rigged Senko.

I have started many friends that never catch bass with artificial lure before, by simple dragging around slowly weightless 5” Senko. It seems like beginners technique but truth be told on slowest day this technique save me from skunked. The key is to move them slowwwww.
