Ouch...that hurt!
I started the day with a couple small fluke fish, then went a couple hours with nada! I threw alot of different baits in the next couple hours, only coming up with a couple more clones. Every time I thought I was putting together a pattern..I was wrong! At noon, I made a move to one of my favorite spots, since it always gives me something. I started throwing a cinnamon/ blue vein worm, a color I haven't thrown for 10 years! First cast, worm got hammered, line burning off my reel, so i backed off the drag and then the fish took me into the weeds. I followed her into the weeds and tried to untangle her by pulling the weeds out of the bottom..that worked and she came up and rolled on the surface, an easy 8lb-10lb fish! She instantly headed for a nearby rockpile, so I cranked down the drag trying to turn her. She dove down between 2 boulders and I feared for my 8lb leader. I could feel my main line braid rubbing on the rocks and as I tried to pressure her back up, my braid snapped and the party was over. Sad..I don't think she was a PB, but she was a very nice fish. I ended the day with 7 fish, a tough day all around...lots of shad and baby bluegill in the water, maybe too much. Mostly clones today, but I had a shot at a nice fish! And..no Vinny, it wasn't a catfish..I got to see her! I would be happier if it was a kitty! Another strange day on the D.K.

bummer to lose a huge bass like that. One of the worst parts besides the line breaking and her getting away, was being so close and
seeing big she was while trying to untangle her. When she took off and the line broke it is hard to explain the emotional feelings you
must have been going through besides the not so PG words coming out of your mouth. I could feel your pain just reading your post.
The good news is you caught some bass on a tough day and also I bet fishing was a lot quieter with me not on the lake...ha ha.
Thanks for sharing and tight lines always!
Did you have any left over mackerel? JUST KIDDING !!!!!!!!

Re: Ouch...that hurt!
That happened to me too many times and is exactly the reason I fish 20 Braid and 15 Flouro leader. Case in point. I set the hook on a hard tap yesterday and was on a fish for 20 minutes praying it was a non- jumping Bass. It towed my Tube slowly 100 yards out into the Lake. You already know it was a Four foot long Whisker Bass. Not much I could do with it alone in deep water. It was exactly as long as the 48’ sponson on my Catamaran style tube. I reached inside its giant mouth and got my jig back. Bye bye Kitty.

I thought kitty when it took off so strong, but then it behaved more like a bass after that..the clincher was when she rolled on the surface! That put an end to any thoughts of a cat! I'd like another shot at her, probably would of tried harder to get her to deep water..and probably a heavier leader!bendopolo 44+ wrote: Sat Jun 08, 2024 3:48 pm That happened to me too many times and is exactly the reason I fish 20 Braid and 15 Flouro leader. But yours took you through all the obstacles that mine didn't!
It hurts for days and what you think you could have done differently??
Your fish gave you no options!
