Silverstrand, Camp Pendleton
Just spent the last 2 weeks fishing at Silverstrand and Camp Pendleton(Del Mar Beach). The water was cold at both places 57.3. Was a Perch fest and I was using Honey Badger baits in motor oil. I leave Monday for San Elijo SB for 4 days and hopefully i run into something other then Perch. Eventually i find some Croakers. Wanted to give a shout out to Perch Killer.

Glad to hear you're getting in some beach time. I haven't done much, water's been to cold. Water temps slowly ticking up so you might get into some early season croaker or corbina at S. Elijo.

Bill, that area is very Rocky. Saw a couple of chaps angling with high low rig using shrimp and Grunion. Saw the guy catch a 18" 7.7 pound Sheepshead and also several Calicos. My light gear isnt made for that bottom. Glad you found this site back up. I'll see you down at my stomping grounds.

Noobie here. How heavy of a sinker should I use? Using a 1.5 oz egg sinker on a Carolina rig and it always drifts and ends up to my side.

Those guys were using 3 OZ. I fish Max 3/4 oz. My 10' Trifecta Lite isnt designed to cast more then 3/4 oz. Feel free to PM if you want some more advice on how to be a slayer.

Re: Silverstrand, Camp Pendleton
I was inspired to try the Silver Strand after seeing this post last week. Having grown up down in CV, the Strand was a regular spot for family picnics during the summers but it had been close to 40 years since I was last there.
Last Friday we fought the southbound traffic from Rancho PQ area, 1+ hour later we were on the water around 6pm. Consistent bite on small to medium sized perch and tons of smaller YF croaker with the occasional skate to add to the variety. Went back again yesterday morning but the bite was not nearly as good, nothing but smaller perch were had by me and some other buddies.

Got out yesterday as well, different beach but similar results. I think the SW swell over the weekend had a lot to do with it.

Bill, we caught a few perch using gulp sand worms. Thats something i'm not interested in. It is always good to see you out there. I will try again Wed. or Thursday. Eventually i'm going to hook something worth while.
