Re: Underwater Camera reviews
About 10+ years ago I borrowed a friend's Aqua View. I saw a lot of bottom, not many fish though. Good for finding fishing poles that have been dropped over board.
After watching a Mark Zona's show I got this:

Re: Do fish even care?
My theory is that the secret to catching halibut is to drop the bait on their nose. As long as you do that, anything works. Has to be boring to just lie there on the bottom all day waiting for something to eat instead of chasing it down like a respectable fish. A real dead beat of a fish, even if ...

Best and worst candy
Now that it is Halloween, the important question.
Worst: has to be black licorice, whether jelly beans or vines. Not a fan of candy corn either.
Best: Reese's peanut butter cups. Almond Joy pretty good too.
Most unpopular Halloween treats: pennies. An old lady in the neighborhood used to hand ...

Re: What fish is this?
Wonder how it got to El Cap? Not native to here and not a common aquarium fish.

Re: Soft plastic modifications RULE!!!!
I am not much of a fly fisherman myself but the some of the ones I know really get into catching fish on their own flies.La Mesan wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2023 7:39 pm We allll can drop shot a senko but I got to admit that catching bass off your own creation or modification just feels that much better.

Re: Tip of the day
To convert mono line capacity of a reel to braid capacity, multiply by 3.75* (mono test in lbs)/(braid test in lbs)
Approximate since mono and braid will vary somewhat in diameter by brand.

Re: Ultralight fishing at Otay
That looks like an excellent setup. I love ultralight fishing, but to be honest I really don't like spinning reels. Especially on ultralights. I am fishing 6 lb. Braid to 4 (or sometimes even 2 lb.) flouro carbon leader, and I am constantly having to fight line twist.
Yesterday I had to cut out ...

Re: Ultralight fishing at Otay
When I fish the bay in my tube, I usually have 4 baitcasting setups and 1 spinning. What I like best about baitcasting is that it is easy to run the line between thumb and forefinger and feel those subtle pressure bites. I usually am throwing 1/4 ounce jigheads with soft plastics so I don't need BFS ...

Asian if that is an OK category. Thai if I have to get more specific although Korean, Japanese, Afghan, Vietnamese, Indian, Indonesian etc. are also very good. Italian, French, Spanish and Mexican are also very good. So nice to have the variety here in San Diego.

Re: Confidence bait or comfort bait
It’s funny you say that. Back in my tournament days I had a backseater, who was a really good friend of mine, beat my butt at Otay throwing a drop shot. It was the only time he ever threw it because he didn’t like fishing it even though he caught fish doing it!! I guess we are a weird bunch! 😂
I ...

Re: Big Bay 12-17
I take a different approach. After I catch several fish from a location and the bite slows down or stops, I will switch baits and often catch a few more. Then switch baits again. If I am not catching anything at all, I will move around and switch baits until I find something that works. I carry 5 ...

Re: Solstice Spotties no pics
I usually just try to keep a constant depth (usually in the 6-10' range) in the tube and let the tide take me out and back, I don't try to hold in one spot. I fan cast all around whatever depth seems to work best for that day. If you have a trolling motor and depth finder, you can do the same with a ...

Kudos to sdfish.org
As we start the new year, it is nice to see the site being a lot more positive and more fishing oriented than the old sdfish.com.
I think adding some fishing articles on lakes, bays and species like the old site had would be a plus though and bring in more visitors, such as at https://web.archive ...
