Can you believe it? San Vicente Jun 5th

Hard to believe that today was my first time out this year. After going my whole life with excellent health, things have gone from bad to since I turned eighty. I really wanted to get out, actually I needed to get out. I got my boat out of mothballs and found that my trolling motor wasn't working. I ...

Re: Can you believe it? San Vicente Jun 5th

Same here Larry, since turning 75, things have definitely become more difficult getting out there. I tell myself I got to get out, but the yucky weather isn't helping!! Nor is the ugly water.
Glad you got out. Going to try myself tomorrow.

Now I Believe It - San Vicente Jun 12th

Last week after a year of forced hiatus, I finally got out fishing and had a good day. But it only gets better, because this week I got to share it with and old friend. Like last week, it was a short day of about 3 1/2 hours. I always feel pressure to catch some fish when someone goes with me, but ...

Re: First of 2023

Nice man. I went out tossing flies today for the first time in months...really hit the spot. Somehow, after the layoff, my casting stroke was pretty good. Might throw bugs again Wednesday

Lake Morena

Went back out - hiked the east side up to the creek - water is way up - banks are 100 yards form where they should be - anyway, saw a few carp - the bass were eager, so still no carp for me - Henshaw has been the best so far for me in amount of carp seen

April 8, 2023 Tidelands

I will kick of this forum with the 1st post. I had been fishing South San Diego Bay for the last few month, had the quantity but not the quality of spotties. Got 29 spotties, 1 mackerel, 1 corvina and 1 halibut (18") float tubing yesterday. The spotties were nice sized for a change, several in the ...

Re: April 8, 2023 Tidelands

Not that you are asking but I have the same apron on my tube and you can cut a tiny slit at the corner end in the front part of the apron that’s folded,
Slide a small diameter tube in there, like 1/2” aluminum tube/pipe and your apron stays square. It won’t fall out either. Game changer for those ...

Corvina

Great to see the site back up again, and that good triumphed over evil in this case (last dig I promise)! I hadn’t been posting much in the months leading up to the original forum’s untimely demise, but thought I’d post a quick report. Cold water has made the corvina fishing tough but some are still ...

South Bay Report April 10th

Hit the south bay yesterday. Only a 2.9 foot tidal swing, but the fish bit ok. I got 25 spotties. Quality was good with a number of almost 14 inchers. Caught most of the fish in 5-8 feet of water on 1/4 oz jigs with shad tail plastics. Got a couple of corvina and one halibut in the mix also.

2 ...

SD Bay a few weeks back.

The weather this year hasn't made the fishing very easy. This was from a while back. My dad and I got smelt and hit HI. We only caught a few small spotties, all on lures if i recall correctly. Very slow bite.

Old SDBay Info Post from SDFish

Letting everyone know that the Wayback Machine (internet archive) has some priceless SDFish items saved, like the DJThrills piece:

https://web.archive.org/web/20210422000049/https://sdfish.com/forums/t/fishing-san-diego-bay.163428/

It LOOKS LIKE the SDFish site but is actually only a "snapshot ...

Thanks. Definitely in my top 25 fishing trips of all time. Extra special catching fish on my homemade jigs. Currently Im in a “jigs only” fishing mode. Trying to get better at jig fishing. A large percentage of my all time best catches have been on jigs.

FISHERIES INVENTORY AND UTILIZATION OF SAN DIEGO BAY, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA FOR SURVEYS CONDUCTED IN APRIL AND JULY 2022

Vantuna Research Group published their 2022 survey a few months back. You can read the 82-page report here. They conduct this trawl and seine survey twice a year, every few years, so it's interesting to see the seasonal differences within a year, as well as trends over time. Additionally, they ...
