Re: Spanish landing barracuda! And cops called
There isnt one single square inch in Mission bay or SD bay that someone hasn’t tried to kick me out of:
too close to the military
too close to my boat
too close to my company
too close to private property
too close to the nature reserve
can’t be in the shipping lanes
can’t be here, we’re doing some ...

Thank You
I really want to extend a huge Thank You to the SDFish community for bringing me on here.
Although I seem to be mostly a guitar builder these days, I haven't gone anywhere yet. I just renewed my Captain's License for another 5 years. Yes, I am still guiding. Expect pics and reports as the season ...

Re: Thank You
Paul,
Most of my scheduled trips as a guide do not include us picking and choosing tides. The customers have an itinerary once they are here, and flight schedules going home. Therefore, I have learned you can catch fish anytime. Tidal flow is always better, but when you are stuck in an ebb, I found ...

Tidelands launch 5-11-24
Started at sunrise. Hit the mooring field while waiting for friends. I was throwing a skunk buster 3/8 oz tube and had 5 by the time they got on the water. Great day of fishing out there with the wind and swell. Ended the day with 20 spotties, 1 ugly ass guitar fish, 3 halibut (1 being legal that ...

Re: SD Bay Conditions?
My son and I fished SD bay yesterday from about 7am to 1030am. Started at the Bali Hai by the docks and scratched out 1 micro spottie, then drove to the harbor area and picked up a couple small kelp bass by Island Prime and behind Coasterra. Water was pretty clear and no smell. Only those 3 small ...

Nice day on MB
Hit the water at 6:30am off by 11:45.
Grey skies, 5 Kt east/SE breeze , constant
Tide still, but going out soon.
I hadn't been out in many , many moons...
I recently tuned up the yamaha 25 - 4/S, added a saltwater rated troll Motor & replaced the batteries marked 5/16 ...😆

Re: SD Bay Conditions?
I launched by the bridge on Saturday morning, water was usual clarity. Got 22 spotties long lining soft swimbaits on 5/16-3/8 ounce jig heads from my tube in 25-40' of water, mostly 11-15". Long lining in deep water is my desperation method when nothing else works.

Under the Bridge 6/10
Usually have 50+ days on the bay a year but today was only my second time out in 2024. Had a friend in town who's a beginner and always wants to get on the water when he's around, especially since I started taking him to the bay instead of lakes.

Re: SD Bay 6/21 Epic
I was out at Zuniga that day and there was an absolute zero bass bite there which was strange, especially with 4-6" anchovy in the bait tank. Looks like they moved further into the bay or more than likely your mom keeping you happy

July 20 report - SD Bay
Hadn't been out for 4 months and I finally made it out Saturday afternoon. Fished from 5PM to 7PM and my buddy and I caught about 45 spotties. Fished just south of the bridge in about 15 feet of water. All fish caught on 3/8 oz jigheads and 4 inch shad tails. We first tried off the cays, but didn't ...

Best color is a clear choice
Saw large schools of 2" slough anchovies in the harbor I was fishing in today. The clear curly tail grub worked better than anything else I tried (full disclosure: did not try a junebug craw though). I used the same lure as 2 weeks ago when I got the 26.8 lb halibut, lure shown below for reference ...

Big Bay Sunday 2-2 Spotties MIA
Was hoping for a day like others described yesterday but no dice. Plenty of water moving but couldn’t find them bunched up. No luck on the Buts but didn’t spend much time there. Maybe better in the afternoon? When they were biters, these did the trick.

Re: Big Bay Sunday 2-2 Spotties MIA
Early morning is usually the best time. Find the eel grass and eventually you’ll hook up into some bass. Also when in doubt, go smaller and lighter on the jigs.

Back bay 3/11
I had my third ever bay session Tuesday. Got there around 6:45am and fished until the windy stormy weather ran me off. Launched the canoe from J street marina and drifted toward the cays. Ended up with a mackerel, 5 spotties and a 21 or 22 inch corvina. I love the bay fishing, but it is a 6 hour ...
