Re: Poaching

Saw a guy with more than 80 HUGE ghost shrimp.
The guy swore he was gonna release the overlimit, but the warden rolled up on him when he got distracted by spotted bay bass.
Oh, wait, that was me.

Re: Poaching

That’s a loaded question because then it gets into judgment of character with people who don’t want or can’t buy a fishing license.
This is all my opinion. For the most part, people who have been purchasing licenses since they turned 16 or started fishing most likely have some sort of desire to ...

Stuff You Hear at City Park Ponds

I'll start.

1. "Are you fishing?"

2. "Are there actually fish in there?"

3. "Do you eat them?" "Why don't you eat them?"

4. "Can I have it then since you're throwing them back?"

5. "Did you catch that?! (While pointing at my swimbait)

Re: Stuff Your Hear at City Park Ponds

"You can't fish here!" - yes it was legal

"Your torturing fish" - my right to fish without harassment is codified in law

"Give me your phone and wallet!" - happened to someone else

"Do you have any extra weed? What about a cigarette?" - if I had weed I wouldn't be employed.

Your right it could be a 10lb anything, like a 10lb bluegill, crappie, salmon, tuna etc.

Re: Stuff Your Hear at City Park Ponds

OMG..That is classic!
Like whatever you say or were going to say in response doesn't not mean anything because his buddy caught a bigger one than what you caught or are going to catch. ( Most likely it was a 5lb bass anyway that his buddy assumed weighed 10lbs..ha ha)

doesn't matter if it was ...

Re: Stuff You Hear at City Park Ponds

How about when a huge carp boils?

"OMG DID YOU SEE THAT HUGE BASS!?" and then they proceed to run over there to cast their bait at the dissipating ripples.

Live Bait Rigs

I’m looking for some incite on how to set up a live bait rig to use at the bays, jetties, piers, ect. I have never tried it, so any recommendations and tips would be great.

Re: Tip of the day

Carry a small piece of rubber sheet, (cut up an old inner tube). Run it over leader line coils to straighten it out. Works like magic.

I have seen fly fishing stores sell a piece of rubber on a clip for a few dollars (LOL).

Another cool thing to do with those old bike inner tubes: cut a 4 ...

And most fish have at least rough edges in their mouths or gill covers that can abrade line.

Even largemouth bass have rough surfaces that will abrade line: https://tacklevillage.com/do-bass-have-teeth/

Can you reel faster than a bass swims?

Bass hit my full speed topwater flukes with such precision, and speed, it always amazes me. Thus my wondering on their speed.

According to one post on a search, you'd be hard pressed to reel TOO FAST!

"LMB can swim about 12 mph with burst speed to 20 mph.
Bass rely on quick turns, not sustained ...

Re: Can you reel faster than a bass swims?

I’ve wound down on fish throwing to the bank when they bolt for deep water. More times than I can remember, winding like my life depended on it and couldn’t come tight till the fish was far and deep.

Re: Can you reel faster than a bass swims?

Bass Ambush speed/aggression is indeed shocking.

This is probably obvious to everybody; From a boat, I almost always consider it a huge favor that bass tend to swim into deep water because it's typically away from hazards. From shore, it gives them an advantage a lot of the time, even if just ...
