Re: King Tides - Week of 11/6

Need to burn some accrued time-off next week so maybe I'll head out to the coast, grab breakfast somewhere, and fish the tide as it recedes. I definitely do not have good experiences with tides over 5'. Not unfishable but generally a lot of stress/effort for an activity that I do to relax, haha. My ...

Mission Beach 11/2

The tide conditions weren’t ideal but I wanted to take advantage of the earlier sunrise this morning at Mission Beach. The current was manageable, although I’m not sure the same can be said for the grass everywhere. It came in spurts and could generally be seen in the water, but man, when it grabbed ...

Re: High Tide

So nobody going to fish high tide this week. Can't you just stand back a little more a cast. I am going out Thursday. At least I will get some exercise. I am going to but a chunk of bait on and see of something bites.

I fished this morning and will post an update in a separate post.

The flaw ...

Mission Beach 11/4

I couldn’t stay away. I got breakfast at Mission while the highest morning tired receded a bit (pic below of the high mark, halfway up the beach to the bike path!!) and made my way to the water.

All things considered, the water was relatively calm. The current was a little strong but not as strong ...

Re: 11/06 Mission Beach

Nice! It's always fun when you land that cast directly into a fish's mouth, haha.

The tide is cool to see, for sure. When I first pulled up Monday I was surprised at how calm it was... until I realized it was because the tide was already up the slope of the beach into the soft sand part! It was ...

Re: PB 11-7

Got out about 645
Heavy surf heavy salad
Incoming tide

Couple light taps early, waves were reaching the built up sand piles by 730. Due to load out I had to call it there. Moved over to the bay. Lots of literal garbage in the water.

Still enjoyed not touching a spreadsheet but 7'6" is ...

Mission Beach 11/10

Took the day off to create a four-day weekend, so I headed to the shore for some fishing.

Mussels were the bait du jour.

I got there close to 6:30 and fished until about 9:00. Relatively calm morning while the tide was out, but as the clouds burned off and the tide started to come in, the wind ...

Mission Beach 11/11

Happy Veterans Day to all who have served, and special recognition to the families of those who served as well.

Today was pretty much a copy & paste of yesterday at MB. Relatively calm morning, and between 6:00 - 9:00 I was catching a steady stream of perch. Smaller than yesterday, but more spread ...

Re: Mission Beach 11/10

Good to hear

Could you tell me what you are using for mussels? Fresh or frozen? Salted?

I have tried a few varieties of frozen , and they disintegrate into a"Mussel-Sludge"

If you have a specific brand/store I would lover to hear it

Thanks,

Doug

Re: 11-13 Mission Beach

Quality perch... Love the wallies...
Butch

Thank you. Did not know what a Wallie was. Had to look it up.

They taste pretty good too!! I feel like they're a bit more oily/buttery tasting than the barred surf perch. My profile pic is one because I just loved how the first one I caught at MB ...

Mission Beach 11/16

Fished Mission Beach from 6:30-10:00. Beautiful morning out there, and I was almost disappointed because I’d wanted to try some new rain gear I’d gotten

Instead, it was all sunshine and literal rainbows.

The current was a little strong at times but certainly manageable/navigable. Once I ...

Mission Beach 11/22

Nothing out of the ordinary to report from Mission Beach this morning. Pretty clean water, little bit of a current as the morning high tide came in, very minor grass/kelp that mostly came off the line as it hit it.

6:30-9:00ish yielded 6 or so perch. Slower day than previous outings but the perch ...

Mission Beach 11/23

The mornings are starting to get a little chilly!! Hard to feel the bait as I set up the early casts 🥶

Shorter hours for me today since the bite died earlier than yesterday, and I used that experience to just shut things down instead of holding out hope for any last nibbles. First cast was in the ...

Mission Beach 11/26

Pre-holiday report from Mission Beach. Calm and clean surf this morning, and fished the incoming low tide up to almost its peak. Hooray for holiday time off from work! It feels like it’s been a while since there has been “fishing hours” tides of less than 6’ down here so it was a nice change of pace ...

Mission Beach 11/28

Beautiful morning out at Mission Beach today; fished the outgoing tide from 6:30 until about 8:30, very calm waters with very little north/south current, and very clean (bordering on clear by the end of my session!). Very light crowds… everyone must’ve been sleeping off the damage they did on ...

Mission Beach 11/30

Fished north Mission Beach this morning with the (rapidly) outgoing tide from 6:30 to almost 9:00. It went out QUICK!

Caught the usual perch of varying sizes, 8-10 total, all of them on mussels. Mostly on the smaller side, but a few in the 9”-12” range. It’s fun to get a “big” bite on them, but ...

Re: Thank you "jwacky" - Mussels worked great!

Hardly my own recommendation, I’m only taking and passing along advice of everyone who’s been so kind as to provide it to me. Glad it worked for you!! Where were you fishing?

I’ve gotten better/faster with tying the elastic with each session at the beach! My “trick” is to just let it hang from the ...

Re: Big Low tides

I am definitely intrigued by the small waves and the low tide... in my head, its like pier fishing from the shore. You can the bait/lure WAY farther into the water than you ever would in normal conditions! I just typically only have morning availability to fish, and the extreme high tides can be a ...

Re: Big Low tides

Give it a go... I bailed this morning because of the tides and predicted surf up here, but you never know, I'll usually just fish when ever I can, independent of tides...
Butch

That is generally how I am too, Butch. I fish early mornings when I can and if the conditions are ideal, great. If ...
