Re: North County trips.
... I fish and chat with people I have met and am on a first-name basis with, as well as strangers. I like that aspect of surf fishing.
This has far and away been my favorite part of surf fishing this year - the conversations with people taking pictures, walking dogs, surfers, others fishing ...

Mission Beach 9/13 - 9/14
The bite was fast and furious at Mission Beach this weekend! Mostly perch, but fish are fish, especially lately.
I "cheated" a bit Saturday morning and made a very early morning pit stop at Crystal Pier to check out the crab bets y'all mention being there, and sure enough, there were plenty. Got ...

A 20" perch?!?! Wow! Would have loved to see that!Everydog wrote: Thu Sep 18, 2025 10:45 am Notwithstanding, I caught several regular perch, and after about five fishing trips without another good spotfin, one came in around 20".

Mission Beach 9/19 - 9/21
Snuck in a few outings this past weekend but much like Perch killer Bill's experiences lately, it was "just perch" for me.
I made it out Friday evening for a very short session, but it was more of an excuse for the wife and I to try a new pizza place while both kiddos had plans of their own ...

Re: Mission Beach 9/19 - 9/21
Perch-only sessions don't seem to be anyone's favorite on most days, but being out there, yep, that's it. We can't catch them from home or enjoy the rest of it. Thanks for the report. Joe. One day, I'd like to try an all surf perch ceviche. I hear it's good, but I mostly let them go, just like ...

Mission Beach 9/26 - 9/27
Grass. Traffic.
That's my report for the weekend. Grass and traffic.
I'm sure this was partly my fault, as I was only able to get to the beach on Friday and Saturday late afternoon/early evening as the tides were receding and/or already out, but they were WAY out at MB when I arrived. I also ...

Mission Beach 10/3 - 10/4
Another messy couple of sessions for me at south and north Mission Beaches. Can't have the good ones without the bad, right?
My son and I went out to south Mission beach Friday evening, arriving around 5:00. Walked north to T-11 or so, and were snagging massive piles of grass on every cast. The ...

Re: North County trips.
summer is fading fast now—time to take out the warmer clothes.
Indeed. My sweatshirts have made their way out of storage bins, and it’s raining as I type this.
Thanks for the report, sounds like you had a nice day! I’ve used the sand crab fishbites and my experiences with those mirror what ...

Re: PB and MB 10-10
Just got back from fishing the outgoing tide at south Mission Beach. Calm conditions and minimal grass, but also minimal fish. One small perch on Gulp sandworm. Had a few bites on clam and the fishbites bloodworms but no takers.
Better than no fish but nowhere near your morning bounty!

Mission/Pacific Beach 10/11
Son and I hit up Mission/Pacific Beach Saturday afternoon and things were far more “normal” than they’ve been over my past few weekends of fishing. The tide was in, but heading out.
We got to Mission Blvd and turned right, deciding we’d fish where we found a spot and were, I think, technically in ...

Nice to get out with your son. With some fish, all that much better..
Butch
Thanks, Butch. Yes, always nice to get some quality time in with him! Both just in spending time with him as he gets older, and also it lets us have a couple lines in the water at once to try different things.
Our ...

Love to hear no seaweed. Nice outing!Nelson 1 wrote: Fri Oct 17, 2025 4:13 pm First time Surf fishing. I was fishing in the morning for 7:00 am to 9:00 am. Caught 5 Perch. A lot of fish nibbling on my bait. Maybe I will try a small hook next time. No seaweed that was a good thing.

Mission/Pacific Beach 10/18 - 10/19
I’ve really been blurring the line between Mission and Pacific Beach lately so I’ll call the weekend “both”. I think the LG towers are all pulled in for whatever reason so no marker to go off but I was approximately where T-21 would be and south. There was an early high tide both days so I tried ...

Re: Mission/Pacific Beach 10/18 - 10/19
Just out of curiosity what size hook are you using. I ask because the nibblers I keep hearing about usually end up hooked for me. Curious if upsizing my hook will help me survive harassment by the fingerlings long enough for a little more quality to get in.
I use #4 mosquito hooks. This is my ...

Mission/Pacific Beach 10/25
I had a small window to get some fishing in this morning; nothing out of the ordinary for the past couple weeks but some experiences/notes/observations:
I was there from 6:30 - 9:00. A little over an hour passed before I got any action at all.
The tide was higher than I’d anticipated based on ...

Mission Beach 10/26
Pretty much a copy & paste from yesterday at Mission/Pacific Beach.

The day certainly could've been worse and you are correct - the worst day of fishing is better than pretty much any alternativeMidnightpass wrote: Wed Oct 29, 2025 8:15 amAll reports are good... Even the skunks... Nobody likes a skunk, but it beats not fishing...
