June 15 scorcher!

I was surprised to get a boat ticket since I logged in from work to do it...don't tell my boss...but I did so day before Fathers day I went (no, not with my kids they don't fish much), but with my buddy Chris. Started in the fog...just a bit but it was chilly. I guess we are late starters since we ...

Favorite urban fishery

Well it has been a while since I posted but thought I would throw up a collection of fish from a few different outings to my favorite local piece of water...so here they are, in mo particular order...actually they are chronological (most recent on the bottom...)

Hard work pays off

Well, honestly it is not that hard after all I am talking about walking along the bank of a small lake and casting...but it was hard to me. Been working at the Sulphur Creek Reservoir since my first trip saw a trout slaughtered by a bass. And for a long time I was skunked. Tried lots of different ...

First of the year...

Well...I am still at it, although not as often. If memory serves me correctly, this is the first bass of the year for me. That I got to shore anyway after having my line snapped (methinks I was a bit too excited) on what should have been the first about a week ago. Oh well this little one actually ...

Well...if you get only 1...

Like always, one is better than none. But today, I said "one more cast" like 15 times...even went to a different body of water. And then...what ends up being the last cast yields me the joy I am searching for. Heart pumping, forgot I was cold, saw that big mouth and got really worried I wouldn't be ...

Hodges Start...

Well I have to say, I am disappointed in my start at Hodges...but this is most likely due to the super inflated expectations I had built up over the long closure. But here goes...two days last Saturday 2-8 and today Sunday 2-16 for a total of 2 fish, but I will get to that in a second. First of all ...

All's well that ends well...2-22 at Hodges

Decided to grab a boat and give more of the lake a try than I usually have access to walking the shore. Went with my buddy Chris (gotta have someone to drive the boat...). Day started with Pourboy Early release intros at the boat launch, was great to meet in person! Then we drove all over the lake ...

Friday morning Sulphur Creek Reservior

Before work is hard in the winter, but it is light enough to get in a couple hours (sometimes less) before I need to go make the donuts. It is a bit risky since a skunk before work makes for a long day...:( This is not that kind of story...nothing spectacular, but a couple little bass plucked from ...

Back to Sulphur Creek, mid-week

Quick after work session at a local (to work) piece of urban water. They are starting to get more aggressive and not shy about choking down the stickbaits...can't remember having to use the pliers on more than the occasional fish...anyway...2 hours, 4 bites, 4 fish.

3-9 Hodges

Well...not a great story today, but a few fish. Started late (some clock thing...), but the lake sure was pretty.

PR perch in Oceanside

Sometimes I fish for "other than bass", and this morning was one of those times. Lots of little nibbles on Carolina rig with gulp sandworms (sandcrabs were all still tiny babies)...and then bang not a little nibble, she took it and went. Fun battle and landed yhe biggest surfperch i have ever seen ...

Question for the group

I have a friend coming to the area for a bit and he is a self proclaimed "bluegill fanatic" and since I am not an expert on where to go for these I would like to ask for advice on the body of water and technique to get a bucket full for a fish fry.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hodges 3-30 afternoon

Another Sunday, another 4 mile walk...with some fishing. Went late, got to ticket purchase around 1:30...then over to the other side for a walk to the dam. I always tell myself that I am going to walk fast to the dam and then fish slow on the way back...but that never happens. I decided to stick ...
