Mission Bay 10/26/25
Fished MB this weekend from 6-8am. With all the bait in the water recently I've been working the jerkbait. Some spots had tons of suspended weeds but I just kept walking and found some clear spots. Seems like the action has slowed down a bit, not as many boils this weekend. Still got a few ...

Mission Bay Slack Tide Success!
https://youtu.be/vwg_r4ODmK8
Hey all!
I finally made it back out onto Mission Bay Friday for a couple hours. The tide had very little water movement, but I still wanted to get out there. I tried some new baits for me from Hook Savvy Baits and ended up really liking their small swimbaits on the 1/8oz ...

Best luck so far
Well. I’ve had my moments of luck so far, but nothing quite like this one yet. Fishing one of my go to spotty spots, and was working my last few casts before heading back to the car. It was after sunset, and I had seen a few small ripples on the water. I had a free rig tied in with a 3” fluke, so I ...

Heck of a fish. Great table fare. Let us know how you prepare it.
I don’t have much experience cooking fish yet, so we kept it easy and made some fish tacos. My kids loved the whole experience! I can see why everyone raves about corvina. I’ll keep it a little simpler with the rest ...

Kelp Paddy Dorado & Yellowtail 8/4/2023
Late report from yesterday...
Me and the broski picked up 1/2 scoop of quality bait that was well worth the line, had two double hookups just south of 302. Then farmed a couple of open water dorado, and landed a yellowtail that made multiple runs into the paddy. They bit 15-25# flytline and the ...

LJ: Bait, Birds, Less Fish
Fished LJ last weekend and i should have gone spearfishing. Water was super clear and loaded with bait, birds and dolphins. I didnt fish the shallows, but instead fished around the outside bait balls. No fish came near the surface, all came on the bottom in the 75-120' range. All fish came on a 1 ...

Costa Rica August 2025
So the last couple weeks have been rather eventful for me. Flew up to San Francisco for the Grateful Dead's 60th anniversary celebration August 1-3 anr the day after I got back I flew down to Costa Rica with my grandpa and our buddy Pete. Stayed down there for 6 days and fished 3. Was definitely a ...

Big ones!
Went out on the Old Glory and it was super fun...we went all the way to Tanner on an overnight boat (big thanks to the Captain). Got there about an hour after first light and there were 30+ boats there already on anchor. we did the same and in short order I hooked (and subsequently landed) a BFT ...

Dorado zarrandeado
So I butterflied out a dorado to cook for my family's early labor day party. It's not a true zarrandeado since I didn't do it over hot coals but 45 min on the smoker and a few on the grill for some color does the trick.

Producer 9/30
Left the dock with Captain Frank in the galley and head deckhand Riley in the wheelhouse, it was his first trip at the helm. Grabbed bait and made the steam due west towards the zone. We made a feeble attempt at dropping jigs once we got to the area around 0400. Nada til greylight and then we went ...

Re: Redemption 5/13
I have never prepared it myself, but I give them to my relatives who like them. They used it as a replacement for catfish in Canh Chua (Vietnamese tamarind-based sour soup). It has a clean, white-meat flavor to it.galen wrote: Sun May 14, 2023 7:02 pm Looks as though you’re eating the rays? How do you prepare them?

Rocky Shorelines - Calico Bass May 22
Walked down to a favorite beach spot to fish a weighted weedless swimbait (shown) along the sand/rock shoreline here, with much smaller surf today.
The recent south swells have migrated tons of sand north on my beach, and have unburied the local acres of eel grass - which is all dead and drifting ...

Re: Torrey Pines Skunk-Away
The biggest fish I caught from the surf was from North Torrey Pines right in front of the parking lot.
