Ultralight fishing at Otay
Today was ultralight day with a seven and a half foot Diawa Presso, and 1/16th oz ball head jigs. I paired the tiny jig heads with 2.5 inch mini swimbaits. I caught 6 nice bass in the the 2-3 pound range and a Crappie. So much fun on ultralight gear. So much so I am thinking of springing for a ...

San V report on 11/13/23
Hello all,
Headed out to San V with John W today. Got started around 0730, because it's cold and there's no hurry when it's windy in the morning. Plugged around most of the day mixing small hardbaits (me) and softbaits (John). Not a whole lot of activity. Did pick up an impressive bluegill that ...

Re: Best Huddleston/ big bass lake in SD
Just to throw my 2 cents in....
I would just guess that you may have better chance at catching a bass 8lbs or up throwing a swimbait at Lake Poway or Lake Dixon. I could include Lake Miramar, but since they are not allowing any type of watercraft(not even float tubes) the odds would be a lot less.

That's a fatty...wonder if it's actually a Red Ear? The busters are very finicky right now, I'm not throwing anything over 2 1/2", and you mostly have to land the bait on their heads!

Tuesday at the Cap...change of plans
I haven't been to El Cap in a couple weeks, so I thought I would give it a shot. My last time there I got into some fun topwater, so this time I set up 5 rods for topwater and dartheads! So you can guess what happened...no topwater! I spent a couple hours searching for anything on top and found ...

Re: Tuesday at the Cap...change of plans
Thanks for the report and the fish porn! I need to get back to El Cap again. It can be an up and down experience there in a float tube but I still love that lake.
The south side of the dam arm works for float tubing, some good little points and boulders!
I was there a couple of months ago ...

Lake Recommendations for Sat 11/18?
Hi Everyone - Planning to go out tomorrow with Shawnster and try our luck at some bass and/or trout. Wondering if anyone has recommendations for somewhere within an hour of SD and offers boat rentals? We were originally planning lake jennings but fear it might be crowded with the trout restocking ...

Re: Lake Recommendations for Sat 11/18?
Like, if you were desperate to catch a freshwater fish — any fish — but you despise the crowds and vibe of fishing for stunned freshly stocked fish, where would you go this time of year? Been on a bit of a dry spell recently! My boys did catch these guys at Lake Jennings last weekend though. We’re ...

Re: San V report on 11/13/23
I hadn't thought about it, but you might be right, it could be a hybrid redear with a bluegill, because those grow pretty fast and are stocky.
That's a very nice bluegill. A pure 'coppernose'. The redear and hybrids have speckles on the lower half of the body and face. All types are shown ...

11/21-Return to Murray.....
Have not been fishing for a while and kept debating should I go or should I not.....I finally decided to head over to Murray. It took a
bit as I did not even get on the water till about 9:15. I was surprised I did not have to show a valid ID to prove that it is actually me at
Murray going out to ...

PS yes I saw the ned fish. That was a beefer! On my boat those automatically become the 5 pounders that got away![]()

Re: Best Huddleston/ big bass lake in SD
Been doing nothing but saltwater/offshore for the the last decade plus after being a strict bass fisherman and I wanna do some Huddleston big fish fishing this winter with my calico gear. Which lakes still get trout stocks? Which lake would I have the best chance at 8 + pounder on a big trout ...

Lake Wohlford
Hit Wohlford on Saturday for a recon trip. My buddy Bryn called up saying he was stuck in Escondido and needed to catch a Bass. Not a lot of Daytime options right now for some epic style fishing so I found some info on Wohlford and ran down, picked up Bryn and hit the Lake. It was $72 for two ...

11/27-Back to the SD River
Decided to take the cheaper fishing route(a recent new roof set me back $$,$$$$) so I headed down to the SD River for a morning session.
The last time I was there it was really stained and flooded via the tons of water being released from El Capitan. This time the water had
gone down to almost back ...

Starting to feel alot like Winter....
You can't tell winter's coming by the daytime temps, but at 6:30 out on San V...I was feeling it! Air temp started out at 42, water temps 60-62. A nice little breeze out of the east didn't help. I was expecting some breaking fish, but found none after an extensive search! I brought out the dropshot ...

San V 12/7 totally different day
Today was a totally different day from Monday. Not nearly the amount of fish busting shad in the bushes but there were still some sporadic boils. Fished from 6:30- 3pm. Not a lot of bites but the quality was good. Ended up with 9 in the boat. Best 5 went 14 1/2 lbs. Things were totally backwards ...
