Re: Short Friday morning
It's going around, all over. Had that nasty cold two weeks ago. Missed three days of work and a fishing date with a couple of friends. I did manage to sneak in a couple of hours before having to punch the time clock on the following Monday., though.

Re: Roboworm or Senko?
The Senko type bait all the way. Traditional Texas rig, on a Nedhead, dropshot, Carolina rig, weightless, drag over weeds, even on a darter head. Regular worms are a little more difficult to cast in an unweighted presentation.

Re: Lake Domingo?
I rode with a group of dual sport riders out to that "lake", several years ago. It is actually a pond, and when we went, it was pretty low, not that it is very deep to begin with. It was winter, and about a third of it was iced over. I have heard people claim that they have caught bullheads ...

Latest personal best
As winter progresses and the water up here freezes over, ice creeping further south every day, I have been having to go fishing further south also. la winter I caught a 6 pound lake trout, then a 29 inch 9(and some change) laker, then a 33 inch 12.95 one in the spring. I was looking forward to my ...

Dang that must of been exciting as heck catching that as that trout was huge!

1st day on the water for 2025
The last couple of fishing sessions up here in the great frozen northern prairie ended 2024 with a solid skunk. Luckily, lots of water in Flaming Gorge is still unfettered by pesky sheets of ice, so yesterday I went out for my first fishing trip of the new year. Weather was nice, no wind, partly ...

Meanwhile, up north in trout land.....
The winter wasn't to brutal up here on the prairie, and the lakes and rivers finally thawed out. I have been fishing fairly often, along with my trusty angling partner Kim. Together, we have been putting the hurt on a number of various trout up on Flaming Gorge and few other spots. I also fish ...

The weather heats up...or not, up north
After some snowy spring weather, we finally had a short spell of warm weather up here in Wyoming. But right away, we got cold rain and blustery winds. But I did a quick drive (or as quick as can humanly possible, anyway) up into the Uintas mountains and was delighted to find no snow anywhere except ...

Re: 6/7-Return to D & K Lake
Pshaw. It's a proven fact that rocks like braid way better than bass do.VinnyBass wrote: Fri Jun 06, 2025 4:12 pm So I missed some opportunites this morning, but what really keeps playing back in my head is I lost 3 bass that broke my 20lb. braid in the rocks.( I may bring rope next time...ha ha)

Re: 6/7-Return to D & K Lake
I dunno. I think I have lost more lures in Hodges than any other lake.JWall wrote: Mon Jun 09, 2025 8:33 pm
The only lake in SD I’ve lost lures easier than Sutherland is Wohlford. Both are tackle graveyards.

Re: Bank fishing for bass
I used to live near lake Hodges, and have had plenty of shore fishing success there. Like others have said, plastics work great. Where ever you go look for cover such as deadfall and stickups or weeds and any visible structure, rockpile lines that lead into the water, or rocky points.

Re: 6/27- Over the hills......
Love to hear these reports from one of my favorite old stomping (and splashing) grounds. The picture of the bass with a hand poured worm hanging out of its mouth reminds me of how LM bassl-ess it is up here and how no tackle shops actually carry any types of plastic worms up here.

Re: Bass fishing Lake Cuyamaca
In years of high water, the south end has been very good to me. I caught my largest personal best at Cuyamaca, but it was way back at the end of June in 2009. I caught a 12 lb bass on a Senko just as a thunderstorm began. It was possible back in those days, to catch numbers and quality, but you had ...

As Summer Fades, Fishing Will Start To Heat Up
Welp, summer has come to a close up on the high prairie and soon all the trout will start getting active for the winter. It definitely has been a slow summer, as we had a dry-ish winter up here, and a lot of the reservoirs had more water drained out of them than water flowing in. I caught a few ...
