Seems the dreaded word SNOT (like the dreaded word SHANK for us golfers) is affecting Barrett fishing. My experience is it has been around for a few years now, perhaps worse this year, from what I gather from this blog. I haven't been out yet.
My question is, will it ever go away? Or is it here to stay?
All I know how to do well is dropshot, and man that SNOT can make using the dropshot aggravating. Guess I better try mastering a new technique.

Re: SNOT
Texas rigged Senko works as well as anything. Run the hook thru the skinny end.
With the drop shot, try using a tie on cylinder weight like https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Decoy_D ... DDSSS.html and put the bait on a weedless offset hook. About 12-18" before the hook, put a swivel to catch some of the moss (with any rig). Use the lightest weight that you are comfortable with. Put the bait further from the hook than usual, up to 24" or even more.
Next time I go out (Wednesday), I will be trying a tiny child rig to see how well that works.
The other possibility is to fish lures closer to the top of the water column and further from the bank. But the fish like to hang out in the snot.
A cone in front of a soft plastic bait can reduce some of the moss. Such as https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Jethro_ ... BSIPC.html .
It only gets worse until about September. No matter what you do, everything that sinks is going to get some moss.

Re: SNOT
Weightless t-rigged senkos and a standard t-rigged worm were our top catchers as they avoided the snot better. I was fishing the standard t-rig outside the secondary brush lines so that helped too. Anything shallow had more chances at the goo. There was absolutely no chase bite last Sunday for us but usually smaller swimbaits higher in the column work too during the peak of the growth. Topwater too so hopefully we have a chase/reaction bite next time out. I think last Sunday was a freak off day.
