Mission Beach 2/14

Post by jwacky »

Fished peak to outgoing high tide at Mission Beach, from about 6:15-9:00. Would’ve finished earlier but was waiting on the wifey to wake up and make her way out for Valentines coffee and brunch.

Really messy start to the day at the peak tide. Lots and lots of seaweed, strong currents, and a reasonably strong surge. I somehow managed a couple perch early in the session, and spent a while waiting for spots to clear to even attempt to cast. Once the tide started to fall the water cleared pretty rapidly, and I caught another five or so perch.

7-8 total on the morning, mostly medium size and one that was probably 11”-12”. Both mussels and lugworms were working.

This incoming storm should make things interesting. I think I’m staying away from the beach at least through next weekend just to let it pass and let everything settle back down. Tides don’t look great during my available windows of time, anyway. Always worth spending time at the beach, but maybe just go for the waves and surf for now and not so much the fish 😂

Nice outings, hanging in there. Jwacky, curious did you think biggest perch was something else? The perch I caught that were about 9” were pretty feisty.
Jteo, 4” slump buster is hilarious, been there.

Yes I have, actually. In fact the past couple outings I’ve noticed the 9”-10” perch fighting pretty hard for their size. I’ve also noticed that I’m catching far more males than females lately, so maybe there’s something to that?
