10/25-Not Lake Murray

Post by VinnyBass »

I decided for a change of pace rather than going to Murray, I would hit the SD River. It has been over a month since the last time I was there. Arrived around 7:30 and this time the water had a green film on top of it. The river always smells a little but I was there to fish and besides not going to eat anything I catch anyway. I started
flippin' in and out of cover. I worked an area for a while where I lost a nice bass that broke my 12lb test on my last trip, but this time was using 50lb braid. No bites there, but soon picked up a small slender bass on a Texas rigged craw bait. Besides that bass I ended up picking up 4 more bass, 3 of them on a brush hog and a small bass on a crank bait before leaving. It was a fun morning and left before it got too hot.

I saw one once down here in the city walking around near my pond.
They are not as wild as where you live. I think this one was wearing a nice collar with a bell on it.......ha ha. :-)

Most bass guys on here seem to be strictly fresh or strictly saltwater anglers with a few exceptions (Fishtricks, Pourboy). Have you ever considered mixing it up down in the bay? Also, did you finally lose your Ranger hat?

I used to fish saltwater a lot years ago, but just have stuck to freshwater bass fishing. For example,I know that there are a lot of
spotties out in the bay just waiting to be hooked. Lots of fishermen I know have told me about the huge numbers of them they
have caught. And after those fishing trips with big numbers, they tell me it is really hard to go back to fish at the lakes.
Even with so many other species of saltwater fish out there, I guess I just like the challenge of trying to catch freshwater bass.
Oh yeah.....I still have a half a dozen Ranger boat hats in the garage.

A couple random pics from a few years ago...yes, saltwater fishing can be fun especially on artificial, but tore up my thumb trying
to lip them like freshwater bass until other tools proved more useful.

I knew it! LMB fishing in our local waters is certainly more challenging than bay fishing on most days. I appreciate those that have the patience and knowledge to reap the rewards. Spotties do have sharper teeth though!

Being a float tube guy I can attest to several holes being acquired and repaired courtesy of those fins!
