8/16-Lake near my house

Post by VinnyBass »

It was a little overcast in the morning and after an already late start to the lake, I spent a good deal of time on shore before launching
when I ran into my old fishing buddy Sonny. Haven't seen him in a long time and he is an amazing bass fisherman. He fishes out of a
kayak and always catches bass(and lots of nice bass)year-round and it was fun to catch up. Finally got on the water and It was great to
run into Dannicus and Larry both out there on the topwater hunt. Soon the bass were hitting the surface, but somehow they could not
see my IMA Skimmer or my Sammy. I made tons of casts and a few bass teased me somehow missing it I believe on purpose so I decided
to try a few other things. I was rewarded with 9 bass, a couple healthier ones, but most were clones and a couple mini dinks but still had a
fun morning out on the water.

The 6 others were clones like McFish catches and
says they were all 3 1/2 lbs....ha ha (Just kidding!)
You get the picture...

Got a haircut because I may need to take a part time job at Chic-fil-A or Burger King so I can afford to buy more Damiki blades
and pay for fishing permits... Can you please put in a good word for me with your former boss at Burger King? Thanks :-)

You did better than me! I got 3 gunfish topwater clones and a couple of real dinks on a tiny popper. It was a tough one for me. Maybe I need spoon and blade lessons haha.

It was great to see you out there as always buddy.

Like Mcfish says you make it look easy Mr Murray, I mean Vinny.
Curious as to which hole do you use on that blade I can’t tell from the picture?
Congrats keep doing what your doing, it’s working.

What is funny is I never changed what originally came with the Damiki Vault(blade).
I imagine the first hole in the front would make the lure run smoother on more level casts,
but just never tested it. Probably just being lazy, but I have vertical jigged it in the winter
here and there through the years in very deep water and it seemed to work fine other than
the line once in a while getting caught up in the back treble hook.

So you use it only for vertical jigging, do you ever cast and treat it like a rattle trap?

Only in the winter I have used it for vertical jigging. Recently I cast it out and reel it in with a pumping stop and go action
like you would with a jerk bait.......but most of my healthier bass I have caught have been down in deeper water 20-35."
I have tossed it into breaking bass and surprised with no takers, so it sounds weird, but the more I let it sink deeper, the
better the results.
