Miramar Lake update

Post by Brian D »

Spun the wheel of fishing choices and Miramar came back up. I was excited to get back on those early morning breakers. Rods rigged with the right baits and alarm set for 430 am. Boom.. Partner got to my house 515 am. and at the lake by 540 am. Only two float tubers at the ramp and took a bit of time to have them clear out since they blocked the entire ramp... All good.

Launched the Ranger and was first one at the prime spot where 8 days ago, they were going off. NOPE.. not today. I am like....WTF. where are they? :? After graphing with my panoptics, i could see that the bait balls were not there... Stuck around for another hour or so as the sun came up and got a few purdy pics... then decided to fish deeper back in the cuts and hopefully find the bait and bass. Well, i did see a few random breakers, chased them, but came up with only one that my partner got on a 2.5 in jerkbait.

Moved around to other coves to just fish...... frog... nada, 5-in swimmer, nada. Finally went way way way back at the end of the lake and found some active fish. Seems the drop shot, with Aarons magic and Morning dawn were doing the heavy lifting. Partner got 6, I got 5. Home by 215pm.

Definitely a different lake. Good luck...

Haven’t been back to Miramar since July 8 and looking forward to getting back up there and on the water again. It seems like any lake these days you never know what completely to expect. Last year, the few times I went before they closed the lake, the top water action varied each time. It was kind of strange, but when the water was completely calm, that’s when the best surface action was happening.
Anyway, thank you very much for the report and I’m pretty sure they’ll be a lot more topwater action down the road for you on your next trips up there. Tight always buddy buddy :-)

Thought of that last Wed. when I went, but stuck w/ top. Did get the stripe off after four hours, then got two more last hour of day.

A tough lake to make them come up when they're not in the mood..I knew you would figure it out!

Im fairly new to serious fishing (about a year and a half now) and caught my first freshwater bass on the 20th. So stoked. Also cool it’s minutes from my home.
