2/25 Otay & 2/26 Murray

Post by VinnyBass »

Well left my house late Sunday morning and took my kayak down to Otay. Didn't arrive till 8:45, but did not matter much as
I mostly wanted to just get my PA 12 back in the water again. I have not taken it out since late November. Anyway....it was
an easy launch as I parked right next to the water. I had not been down there for a long time and tried to get my bearings
but decided it would be easier just to toss plastics in or on the outside of the tulles. I landed my first bass on a senko
and between senkos and craw baits, I ended up with 6 small bass. Did not stay long, but it was nice change of scenery.
Then today I bought why not go fishing again and headed over to Murray. Another cloudy day and a chance of rain never
happened. Threw plastics and a few creature baits mostly. Later in the morning, I missed 4 bites(no doubt they probably
a dink or trout messing with my baits) but I ended up landing 5 bass. I almost thought of going 3 days in a row and hitting
the SDRiver tomorrow, but this old body says its time to relax (buy never too tired to hit a tackle shop tomorrow).
All in all it was fun fishing back to back days even though most of the bass were pretty small and they were really
tiny bass at Murray. Had a great time chatting with Dannicus this morning and with his influence caught one on a jig.
Anyway a buddy(who asked to not be named) asked me why I have not been posting anything so here is a post :-)
Tight lines

I was kind of overwhelmed by the water level at Otay when I got there. There is so much new cover to fish
and I was not planning to be there long so decided to just head down a little ways towards Otay arm. I never
even made it to the Olympic Rowing area. It would take a day just to cover all the tulles and stick-ups just
to get there..ha ha. I figured I could flip for a while that and that was not working so a little later I decided
to just toss plastics on the far outside edges of the tulles. Wish I could have stayed longer but it seemed the
bass I caught were in about 15-20 feet of water. There had to be some deep in the tulles but maybe next
time and anyway when things warm up, I think the fishing may be pretty fun down there.

I actually had a few things to take care of that day and was happy just to get on the water for a bit. When I was
young I could fish morning till almost dark, then later I fished till the late afternoon. Then in my recent years I
fish usually from morning til around 1:00 or so.(Funny, but in the colder months, I almost always get a late start
in the morning as the old and its too cold scenario kicks in...ha ha).

Looks pretty good to me. You’ll probably get a six pounder next time.

I was lucky as heck in a 5 year span or so where I caught at least 2 bass that were in the 6lb range each year and some
of those years even a few more(thanks to the Tokyo rig mostly)....up until until last year. Since I fish Murray a lot it was very tough
with the several lowering and falling water levels all last year. It’s still not back to previous water levels and my biggest last year was a 5 pounder.
I just want to catch bass and have fun and may go a decade or ever without catching a 6lb'er ...but it sometimes is fun to hope.
Tight lines buddy :-)

Right back at you... as it is always fun to chat and share fishing stories with you . I am glad I stopped by the lake on the way home. It was fun to check out some of your gear. Very nice and amazed on how far I could cast one of your very light baits.
Hope you are feeling better soon and look forward to seeing your posts again. Best wishes and tight lines. :-)
