Awesome multi-species day 2/23/24

Post by Dannicus »

Had an awesome multi-species day BFS fishing at lake Murray.  Ended up with 13 Bass and two Trout.  I was throwing mini Ned rigs, and tiny jigs with TRD Crawz trailers.  Most  of the bass were in the 2 pound range with one over 3, and another close to 4 lbs.  I have to admit, BFS has rapidly become my favorite style of fishing.

It was great to see Vinny and Kirk our on the water too!

Nice work out there! I had forgotten that they were stocking trout there again until I stuck on in a lipless crankbait back in Dec.

Great job out there again and always fun to see and chat with you. Those small baits and BFS fishing are sure
playing off. It was funny as I told my buddy Curt in the other boat on how I have not caught a bass over that
structure near the point entering San Carlos arm for a while and then watched you pull in a bass seconds later.
Stubborn me just spends too much time in deep water. Over the last several years during the months
of December through February, I have done well on spoons and blade baits, but not very well lately.
Did manage some small clones and a trout on plastics, but looks like you had a heck of a lot more fun.
Thanks for sharing and Tight lines always. :-)

That’s some nice angling out there. Much better than my meager total of three.

I followed your lead and nailed this one plus 6 Clones on a 1/16 oz. Jighead and 4 inch Sluggo. 7 pounds 12 oz. Took me around the boat twice, jumped 4 hair raising times and had two drag screaming runs on six pound test.

They are just keyed in on jigs and small baits. Nice fish!

Dannicus I followed your lead and picked up the Ark Gravity BFS reel. Still getting it wired but it sure throws a light bait a long way for a baitcaster. I have one spotted bay bass on it and am looking to catch a ton of largemouth on it this season 😉

I set the internal brakes to the second mark and just fine tune the outer dial as needed depending on the weight I am throwing. I think that works for 95% of everything I have thrown. Also found that lob casting it better than flicking for me.

The only thing I have found that I wish was that it has a little stronger drag. On bigger fish I think I'd get a better hook set if the drag was a little beefier. Overall though I love the reel, and honestly I probably overset the hook in most cases. It's a habit from heavier tackle an hooks.

Good old Sluggos! I have a ton of them and rarely throw them anymore! I should revisit that lol
