5/26- Overcast, Windy Murray

Post by VinnyBass »

Headed over to Murray this morning and was greeted with over cast skies and cool weather. Not much later it got pretty windy and the water got very choppy. I took was my small kayak, that does not get much lake action because when the winds came up it was almost like trying to keep a popsicle stick straight in the water. Anyway, I picked up a few dinks on a small fluke and a couple on a senko before the winds kicked in. Then I used a Texas rig to pick up a few more bass on plastic worms and one on a creature bait which was my biggest bass of the morning. It was great to see Dannicus out on the water and to catch up with the usual fish talk we bass fishermen always have to share. It just got too windy and left the lake losing 3 and landing 9 bass which most were pretty small.

Don't want to bore you with a bunch of dink pics
but here is a sample of what most looked like...

You’re right, especially when it’s a slow day.
I never catch quantity when I’m fishing the San Diego river, so any bass that ends up in my kayak is a good thing no matter how small it is.

Mine were all dinks and clones too brother. I got 4 top water early, (I got there right after it opened) then spent the rest of the day trolling a bluegill colored Berkeley Dime crank bait around in the wind. It was windy off and on, and a bit chilly too. Nothing big but the numbers were there for me. Final count was 19 with lots of others that came off, so I can't really complain.

Nice job out there Dan.
Those bass are still in the eat shad mood as
proven by them eating up that cool crank bait
you were using. That is why you always see
me in the middle of the lake looking for shad or anything that hits the surface. It is funny that I often preach that when the bass are chasing shad, reaction baits are a better choice and tossing a worm is less effective. But yesterday I just went against the odds and decided to mostly toss plastic worms etc. It was a little different being in my small kayak and still had fun in between fighting off the cool wind and choppy waters until it got too out of control. Anyway....always great to see you out on the water and see you out there again soon. Tight lines buddy. :-)

Nice, you always put some in the boat.
I’m curious what that purple bait is, I don’t recognize it?

It is a Swim Senko in a June bug color.
