Using Surfline, I picked the easiest window on Thursday morning, still in bad conditions for LC, as far as I understand it... and just two perch on it in the gentilest sea state that morning had to offer. It started at 3-4 feet and grew steadily to 5-6 feet waves with a high tide.

Full disclosure, about a week ago, I had a dream of finding the motherlode of sand crabs! Back to mid Del Mar Sunday, like a broken record, and I don't see that changing too often. I mostly fished with Gulp Sandworms, but ran a brief, not very skilled comparison with dehydrated lugworms. That Gulp sand worms seem preferable, but the dehydrated lugworms got bitten, and caught a few. Grass was okay, but when it's not, fishing north, like around the lifeguard tower 15 or more north, is better.
All fish were perch, including two biggish pregnant female BSP and a chunky Walleyed surf perch, no other species. At one point, I caught 5 perch in a row, but mostly I searched for bites with the outgoing tide. Throwing a heavier egg sinker on the c-rig worked well around the rocks. I think mine was 1.5 or 2 ounces. The next tempting day will be Sunday or Monday, according to the forecasts. Let's see. Happy fishing to all.

The big female BSP slabs should start showing in greater numbers the next couple of months with ravenous appetites as they get closer to birthing . Thanks for the report !

Thanks for the report.. Productive day... 1-1/2 or 2 oz weights are pretty heavy, must have been some surge or current... That much weight, I'd have to get out my "Big Boy" rod. ...

Hi Butch, for throwing into the holes in the reef, it worked well because the bait stayed where it needed to be in the holes or along the edges of the reef, or I could drag it on the desired trajectory around this structure.

I wonder how much the "soft structure (sand)" has changed since 2017... I would think that the "hard structure (rocks/reefs)" would be pretty much the same... Maybe covered or exposed by the sand...

The portions that I have seen at low tide are similar, and there is actually a more recent one with this kind of resolution, Feb 14th 2022. One man said it's just a little more sand lately. That doesn't actually answer your question about soft structure very well, and I don't know.

The portions that I have seen at low tide are similar, and there is actually a more recent one with this kind of resolution, Feb 14th 2022. One man said it's just a little more sand lately. That doesn't actually answer your question about soft structure very well, and I don't know.
