First day of wabbit season...at the south end of the Cays.
Water wasn't really moving yet....the crazy spotty bite should be going off any time....any minute now...just about now...heck, I'll take a consolation fish...
Eventually scratched up a few bass. Only got a few out of the grass. Most along the edges of the channels...and where the different harbors in the Cays dump into the channels.
Got 8 spotties over a foot long...one was 15 inches..
Even found a sand bass. Well, it will be a sand bass someday...
This area's usually crawling with fish, but to be fair, I arrived at slack tide. Mighta hung out 'til the water started moving again, but worried the wind might pick up, and was too pooped to fight that fight today..
Ended the day with 25 bass, 1 hali, one ambitious smelt. Had a scrawny bonefish on for a bit...but it came off about ten feet from the tube. ScorcherZ baits got most of the fish. A few on grubs. My new favorite lure (chatterbait) got bupkis...but I fished it mostly in the weeds and got little action there.
Beautiful day on the water. I wonder what the poor people were doing today...?

Re: South Bay Bite Wide Shut
Have you given your inline spinners a try for the salt water?
Nice fish that you caught.

Geez, with a title like that I was expecting to hear you say you got 4 or 5! I fished Saturday, murky water no current, slow for me as well. But then again my best days usually sound like others’ off days
I love my raft but I don’t like dock hopping, spend more time repositioning than fishing. Out in open water I drift alot faster being higher on the water, have trouble fishing the smaller finesse baits.

I was on the water alllll day. Only had one hot spot, sometimes hours between bites, just kicking around swapping lures. Beautiful weather and no crazy tides, so on balance a pretty good day.galen wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 9:37 am Geez, with a title like that I was expecting to hear you say you got 4 or 5! And Vito, I haven't made any bigger spinners yet. But they're on the list.

Re: South Bay Bite Wide Shut
I have some spinners I made for Salmon fishing up north and have caught 26LBer on a blue spinner with a single hook, iwas thinking they would work well in the salt, I just haven’t been able to try them yet, knee and shoulder problems, I hope to soon.
Looks like nice day for you, Congratulations
