El Cap Bass: No Boats Allowed!

Post by Pourboy »

Hey all,
I managed to get out to El Cap in the tube and man it was eerie! No boats on there was awesome and horrible at the same time. I know that we all understand the lakes situation but I am going to make lemonade while lemons are in season.

I started off throwing topwater, frogs, you know...but no bites. First throw with the jig and hooked into something massive. Hit and run! And snap! I never saw what it was but it was something with some serious power. Anyway, fast forward to 10am and I had 2 small bass and a few missed hits. The wind began to pick up and I figured the end was in sight. Not. So. Fast. I hit an area with more rocks and the bite began. Steady bites for the next few hours in 1-6ft of water on both jigs and worms. Some small fish and some a bit bigger. The biggest that I weighed was a bit over 2.5lbs, but I did get a 20" skeleton. All in all I managed 20 fish in the next few hours. I guess they switched on with the wind! I had a great time on a lake and will definitely be back soon. Most fish came on either the 1/8-3-16oz. jig in Green Pumpkin with a GP/Purple Bandito Bug Trailer or the Zman Mag FattyZ Black and Blue worm. If you want more details you can check out the video. Cheers! See you on the water.

Thanks for the report and always enjoy your videos.
Bet it was weird not seeing any boats. Nice day to fish as it was cooler.
Tight lines always Chris. :-)

Cats eat jigs a cap. At least that’s what I would hope it to be vs a swamp donkey.

Yes, I've gotten my fair share of kitties there on jigs. I have no idea which it was. That being said what didn't show was the giant swirl on top of the water after it broke. The fact that it was already near the top leads be to believe that it may have been a bass. Seems like the cats always go way down first. Cheers!
