I agree, Carpkiller. Not really worried about fish, but that comes up all the time. I want a good forage base....shad was working well but it will work out. I hate to say it, but what made Loveland thrive is the fact that about 80% of it was fished very little, and the rest only from shore. Even in the legal section, in high water, it was too hard for most of the shoreline back there to get much pressure. That's why it was so good. Barret is kind of the same, but Loveland is free.

The big thing is getting Sunrise to Sunset access hours back and stopping them from shutting the gates on lies self-indulgent lies and feigned helplessness to make it "safe". The story on that is the same as it ever was. Sweetwater took sunrise to sunset access away while the Forest Service was sleeping and when we woke the Forest Service back up the Descanso Ranger instantly assumed the role of Sweetwater's lackey and water carrier and rubber-stamped the theft as an o.k and good to keep stealing it. That sucks.

We want the minimum pool on the "in perpetuity" schedule and so does the entire area, Dehesa, Crest, Alpine, Jamul, and beyond. Sweetwater should get environmental and public harm sanctions, but they can deal with that slap on the wrist and go back to grinding on California to change the water license that they violated and work on the Forest Service to screw us again. Right now they don't have any bargaining chips left except this threat to try to get to where they can take the water again without any public recourse like we have this time and I knew we had all along but they ignored.

They do think fish restocking is a bargaining chip but that's stupid for a fool or a cheat would give them that. They killed the fish! How is putting them back a bargaining chip? Activists can beat them on that as we beat them on opening the gates when it was obvious they didn't want to. Besides that as we have been discussing a little bit. Fish are coming back anyway.

We are at a point where lake users' interests are at risk of being wiped out in a compromise for just water. I don't have time to explain it at this moment. Those lake users include anglers the tackle stores. Will they step up now? Really step up? I doubt it. There are a few individual anglers that have most have done nothing constructive or only do it when I bug them to death, if at all.
I just have one question, are you retired?

I’ve had favorite restaurants close, and I bitched about it. That being said, as noble as it might have been, I’m a younger single dad with full custody of my son, and taking off work to stand outside with a picket sign would certainly have served us well on the long run. Blind eye is referring to the people in charge that know the wrong doing but don’t want to ruffle feathers. Not even apples and oranges. Like apples and turnips

You know, Your situation is that of who I think I am fighting relentlessly for. Especially sunset closing, so dad, or mom or a family and kid, or some guy who busted his ass all day doing the kinds of things I used to do, or worse, can get out there after work and/or school. I am sort of retired but this is far from a casual situation and yes there are some single dads showing up when they can. I don't know the whole childcare situation if that matters.

I don't know if this is going to happen but theoretically: Sweetwater will not likely fuss with us if we bring the news people back out and protest closing early and demand sunset closing per the easement. For the last one they just stayed away. If they fuss with us they will be on film, tik tok, youtube. maybe fox-5, Facebook, or Nextdoor, There is strength in numbers. Not to mention. Instagram, their own Facebook page, and probably a couple of newspapers too.

A simple post and call to simple but important action:

Senator Jones is discussing the restoration of sunset closing and fish restocking at Loveland with Sweetwater and the Forest Service. Please email him and show you care with one sentence, or more if you want to.
[email protected]
Dear Senator Jones,
I appreciate that you are discussing your constituents' interests in having the maximum easement hours honored at Loveland Reservoir with the Sweetwater Authority and Cleveland National Forest Supervisors.
Sincerely,
xxxxxxxxxxx

His office is all over this. It's being coordinated by his district Director, Andrew Hayes, who I am told will make a run for State Assembly.
If you recall, Camo, I had extensive interaction with Senator Jones's staff, they worked hard but nothing panned out.

I do have one question. Why is the State Senator doing Issa's job with the US Forest Service? I think I know the answer too. But Jones has no authority over the Forest Service at all and this is a concern. Without guaranteeing anything, I do think Senator Jones is in it to be part of a successful ending, but I would rest easier if I thought we had the same support from a congress member.

Edited, I was probably spreading a conspiracy theory about the hours being shortened the sign at the lake says the parking lot closes at 5:00, But a friend eventually figure somebody probably pulled a plastic # 6 off the sign. Sweetwaters website still says it closes at 6:00.

I pointed out the concern about why a state Senator is doing a meeting with the Forest Service representing us instead of a congress member.
Not sure what happens. I think they will understand the credibility issue though.
Nothing to do on that front but watch now.

Issa seems to have too many national issues to deal with at this point, he seems to be on TV everyday discussing the border problems and the homeless. I think Loveland is way down his list! Jones seems to have more of a local interest!

Yeah, I agree. plus Jones people never lied to me or cheated me out of casework like the staff, including two Legislative directors in Washington for Congressman Issa, and Vargas did.

The only real item seemingly at risk of advocates not winning is Sunrise to Sunset. There is a lot of momentum, but it is decidedly not up to me anymore. I'll help anyone who wants it. People want it. Let's see where it goes. The bright side is I go back to ninja fishing anyway. Might spend another birthday night down there yet! I hope we get it though. Without full adherence to the easement, Sweetwater has one foot out the door. Think about it.

Sweetwater Reservoir is now only open from 7:00-4:00 and they are threatening to sand mine the reservoir still. Maybe if we get Sunset back at Loveland, the locals down there will think it's winnable, because I can't get a single one of them interested, even though I have this document showing that Sweetwater got the Hud funds for the ADA-compliant fishing program at Sweetwater with a flyer for sunrise to sunset fishing. Page Three here. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xK6R3G ... sp=sharing

On the other hand if Sweetwater Res. fans fight for their sunrise to sunset while we fight for ours. That's solidarity right there. They could use it to make sure Sweetwater gives them something if the sand mining interrupts fishing because we know the Sweetwater directors will just kick them out of the place entirely.

Going to focus on my CalEPA complaint against Sweetwater. Keeping that from being politically and bureaucratically "disappeared" is a big enough challenge. Like I said, I am here to help with anything Loveland or Sweetwater Reservoir, for anyone who wants it. I think people should restart the fight for Morena too. It's got to be pretty nearly true that all these water districts lose by leaving a decent minimum pool is some evaporation! That's a fair trade-off for all the concessions historically and currently granted to them.

It is a good ask for Jones to go after a bill that makes it extremely problematic FOR ANY WATER DISTRICT to do excessive drawdowns, especially on the garbage excuses Sweetwater used at Loveland. How could Dems reject that? We saw and documented the environmental and public harm, all unnecessary.

Forest Supervisor Tangenberg still denies any ability or interest in getting sunrise to sunset or stopping Sweetwater from closing the gates.

I am done with leading this push. Someone else has to do it. Tons of people know the problem. Probably have to be protests at Issa's offices, the Forest Service offices, or both.

From Scott Tangengeberg today: The Cleveland National Forest does not own, operate, maintain, or staff the facilities at Loveland Reservoir. Please direct your interests regarding the hours of operation at this day-use facility to the managers of the Sweetwater Authority, as they have the responsibility to facilitate public access at Loveland.
