Sign against reduced City Lakes access

Hey everyone, I saw this on Nextdoor.
If you go to https://www.change.org/topic/san-diego there is currently a petition to sign to keep Lake Miramar open more than just 2 days a week.
I imagine there will be many San Diegans out there doing what they can to try to fight reduced SD City lakes access in 2026.
This is a start and hope all will sign this petition and other petitions that will be in the works.
United we can hopefully make a difference!
(No pressure to contribute cash, but wanted to let everyone on SDFish that things are happening out there to help fight what the Mayor has proposed).

Gloria is already fighting other petitions. There are jurisdictions with petitions that disqualify signatures as well as other loop holes. Hopefully something happens but something tells me, he’s going to do what he wants to do regardless of people’s concerns. Pretty lame. Even more lame, so many living throughout the county like myself can’t even vote for the mayor of SD who controls things in my area.

There is this park close to where I live that is never crowded, I used to take my kids there when they were growing up and was very nice just the way it was. The city decided it needed to be upgraded; the street traffic and park have been a real mess for the last 6 months and it is costing $5.1M and is nowhere near completion. Whatever repairs it might have needed a good handyman could have done for a few hundred dollars. Miramar Lake is super busy, the parking lot is completely filled up by 9 am most weekends. The other lakes are often crowded too. $5.1M would be much better spent in areas that get heavy use.

Diplomatically stated and much understated, the city has misplaced priorities. I suspect other members have seen examples of poorly spent funds that could have easily kept the lakes open.

I talked to one of the lakes Dam keepers yesterday and they want to raise the fee for Srs and reduce the fee for the water contact people, the closing of Murray will force the people who walk around the lake to park on the north of the lake in the residential area and I don’t think that is going to go over big. If they close it to fishing then close it to every one. If they would license all the bike riders they could probably keep another lake open. Also the above dam keepers said that they were going to leave SV the way it is now. Why are they draining EL Cap so to force out the boaters. One man’s opinion

Geez...they already raised the fees for the seniors the other year where I used to pay $4 for the permit and $2 to fish out of my
kayak and now ithe same senior permits doubled to $12 fro me to fish out of my kayak. From $11 to $17 for fishing out of my
boat. I know people that are not seniors pay more, but another increase??? What about some small fees for walkers etc?
I agree totally with you Sherpa that the neighborhoods around Murray will be packed with cars if they close off the gates at
Murray. And like your idea that if the City would license all the bike riders, revenues could be made. Just seems crazy also
to drain El Cap. Lots of extra boats at Murray on Monday and Tuesday this week...not that that is bad, but think if they
close the lakes to only open on the weekends, it will be a total madhouse at small lakes like Murray next year. Just venting....

I talked to one of the rangers at a local lake and said even though the lake is closed for public use on Wednesday they will still be there which makes no sense
