Loveland Update , I have been told that a Loveland water transfer has started. I am not 100 percent sure but that makes sense.
I was about to give an update on advocacy for the minimum pool and other things and will do so via this Youtube video that contains my trip to fight for Loveland this week by speaking before State Waterboards in Sacramento.
The Loveland Presentation starts at 19 minutes and 45 seconds.
Yes, I realize it's a 7 hour video. but Loveland is early.
I have a lot of other irons in the fire for the fishing program lets see where they go.
It's possible it will be a small release or a normal release like we used to see. Highly unlikely that Loveland will be dewatered.

Sweetwater Authority is one Loveland Transfer away from destroying the fishing program and other socially and ecologically productive elements of Loveland Reservoir. Based on all previous transfer dates, this could happen in less than a year. The transfer was bad for protected species areas downstream of the reservoir.

Sweewtater drained Loveland to Deadpool on November 15th, 2022. The General Manager and Directors have said they will put the newly rebuilt fishing float in a safe place when they drain the lake again. We were Lucky it rained near record levels, or the lake could have stayed dry and dead for years. Still, the fishery and wildlife are recovering and will be hammered again. The lake could have easily been empty for a few years, and Sweetwater's policy was to drain what came in anyway.

Who believes it is essential for Sweetwater to declare their intentions for Loveland now so that we do not discover it is being destroyed without notice, possibly within a year?

Sweetwater Authority had a meeting this Tuesday about Loveland water transfers. About 8 Loveland advocates attended in person.

The general manager, Carlos Quintero, said the Sweetwater Authority still values dewatering Loveland, which is draining it completely. Outside of some emergency, the earliest the process would start would be October, and with historical patterns, it would be done by March 2026, IF Sweetwater is allowed to do it and chooses to do it. The GM says he can. Maybe he can, but knows it's not a good idea by now. Perhaps he can't, but doesn't know it yet.

An investigation at the State Waterboards was restarted about four months ago, and I have been in contact with DFW since then. The future of Loveland depends on Waterboards' outcomes, as DFW won't do anything unless something is out of bounds with water rights, which DFW doesn't control. I don't like that DFW, USFWS, and USGS don't jump in more willingly because of ecological stewardship and fishing defenders. The transfers were a disaster.

The Chief Attorney for State Waterboards emailed me yesterday that he "thinks waterboards will do outreach with you (me) soon." At this point, it seems that "outreach," for better or worse, will come within a few months. But I don't control that.

The fish are back!

Monday 12 2025 fish count:

17 largemouth bass; 4 were around 2lbs the rest were 1ft or smaller.. all released.
3 Bluegill; 1 was 8" and the other 2 were around 6", all released.
6 carp; 7lb & 5 lb and 4 under 2lbs. All kept and given away to neighbors.

Please if you do go, don't keep any fish except carp, practice catch and release for a couple more years so the bass and panfish population bounces back.

Post your report in the reports section but one problem, Loveland reports aren’t allowed

See my other reply. Messing around. But there is a report section. Take all the carp you can.
