2/21-Late Morning fun

Post by VinnyBass »

With the recent warm weather, I just figured the bass should be moving in tighter to shore. Hit the water a little after 8, and flipped
the tulles and outside of tulles in shallow water with plastic worms, craw and creature baits. So much for the bass being in tighter
as I worked those areas hard for close to 3 hours without a single bite. I even tossed a few swimbaits in hopes that a giant bass would
engulf one of my offering, but no dice.
With the morning almost gone and my fishing day getting close to ending, I decided to head to deeper water and fish deep.
With the help of a few selected baits, I was able to pick up 6 bass with a few being pretty healthy(feeding on shad no doubt).
Coming up from the depths, I had to fizz each bass.
I am pretty sure the bass with be moving in tighter....but not today, but hopefully soon. :-)

A few pics....

What is strange is last year most of my healthier and bigger fish were also down in deeper water at Murray and Miramar. Quite a change for me, as the years before I mostly used Tokyo rigs to flip the tulles and fished closed to shore for some of my nicer fish. No complaints, but even since they lowered the water at Murray you have not even heard the words bass on a Tokyo rig much, unless it was in a post about the SD river. The past 2 years, the water level has never returned to what it was years ago. So instead of many areas to flip where the water outside the tulles was at least 10-14 feet in many places, it is now mostly 4 feet or less. Yeah, yeah, I know you guys are saying fish still can hide back in there, but numerous, I mean numerous times in the past 2 years I have came up empty and I fish pretty often. All the places I flipped for years that use to produce nice fish on Tokyo rigs are now places I just think...well maybe today it will be better....but it never is. OK....I guess it is pretty obvious the low water level at Murray does bug me and so I just have to try other things like fishing in the middle of the lake...ha ha. :-)

I posted this video a few weeks ago in a Feb. 5th report, and is pretty easy to follow
and how I do it.

I have one of these in my kayak and one in my boat for fizzing.

I hold the bass under the water until the bubbles stop and the bass is ready to be released.
