10/11 A Few Still Around

Headed for the PB pier yesterday to look for crabs but couldn't find any close-in parking so a no go & off to Mission. Decided to hali hunt with the LC both sides of the 7 am high but the kelp floaters & grass made that difficult. Aborted after 20 minutes and could have tried to go weed less but switched to my c-rig just to see if fishable under the conditions and if anything around. Lot of grass still but fishable and perch thieves were active. After about 3-4 bait changes, felt like a shark/ray or guitar fish was massaging my mussel bait, then came the pull & set the hook. Made some good runs but no color yet so convinced it was a sngf. Get it in close among the kelp & grass and flashed silver and see its a nice spot fin. Taped at 18" and released to fight another day.
