5/16 Marvelous Morning at Murray

Post by VinnyBass »

I have had some tough trips this year to Murray where I worked hard just to catch a couple bass(thank you for lowering, then raising the water, then lowering and then raising it a little etc, etc., etc.) Anyway...My last trip in the beginning of May showed a little sign of improvement. This morning dang it, the water was down a few few feet from my last trip. My buddy Joe was going to join me this morning and I told him that the water went down again, so it may be a tough bite. Of course with Murray, you never know what to expect so I told him if we catch 1 or 2 bass, it may be a good day.
We headed out to an area and saw a few fish hit the surface. On Joe's first cast of the morning, he landed a bass on a fluke. And the fun began. I started to show him my new electronics and he was suddently landing another bass. Then as I grabbed a few rods out of the locker and started rigging a few reaction baits and Joe pulled in 2 more bass before I finally landed my first bass. We each missed easily a half dozen each but after tossing a variety of different size jerk baits, some flukes, under spins and other reaction baits we landed 21 bass(I got 12 bass and Joe got 9). Joe also tossed a deep diver crank bait and surprisingly landed a trout also. The dang trout was flipping around and one of the treble hooks pierced right through the skin of one of Joes fingers. I cut the barb off and Joe pulled it through and then Joe quickly landed another bass on a fluke as that deep diver went back into the tackle bag.
My largest bass weighed in a 4.25 lbs., but most of the fish were not real big and lets just say that the bite was really fun while it lasted.
The bite slowed down(stopped) so we started to toss some plastic worms. Heck, why not..... but after several casts in fishing looking areas I had 4 bites on plastics and Joe had a couple bites but neither of us could land a bass on them.
Oh well.......it still was a very fun morning and great to be out with my old fishing buddy Joe again. We both laughed after I got a text from @mcfish saying we were amateurs after telling him no bass on worms. I guess I should have bit the head off a 4" Roboworm and tossed in out there on a drop shot rig. Maybe next time........or not...ha ha
Tight lines everyone :-)

Geez....... it would not allow me to post too many pics so here is just a few...

When I got up this morning, the first thought I had was this is a fish catching day. Now I know who. Nice report.

It surprised me….as Murray can be very temperamental. There’s countless numbers of times where one day the bite is on and then a couple days later everything shuts off. I struggled more than a few times this year just to get couple bass. My last trip in early May was fun but you really never know what to expect especially with the lowering and raising water levels this year. Anyway, it was nice to get onto a bite and especially having my friend Joe with me.
Tight lines my friend. :-)

He was sure making that fluke work. I told Joe before he left to call or text me when he wants to join me again....but I also told him that sometimes I do not get all my text messages or phone messages as they randomly disappear at times.......he got a good laugh out of that. Joe knows my sense of humor and it was really fun to fish with him again. He is not British, but does get a kick out of your comments @mcfish.
Tight lines buddy

SLAYER
noun
someone who kills a person or animal in a violent way.

@mcfish....I am not a slayer and all fish in my post were released in a humane way. I know the smallest bass may be a little
confused but no real physical harm was done....and she kissed me first.

My lawyers from Jacoby and Meyers will be contacting you shortly in regards to a possible defamation of character lawsuit.

I may wave them off if you figure out how to get the bass at Sutherland to start biting. :-)

May I interject in this lively discussion? Just noticed that mcfish is now an official "Pro Angler". Still aways away, however, from being a "Fish Slayer". I myself am barely an angler.

You are Big C….and should be proud of that. Barrett bass are nervous when you are there and soon you will be pulling in fat bass after fat bass in Minnesota. Many of the bass are trying to find new spots to hide so you don’t find them as easy as last years trip…. Ha ha
