My bro in law is a recording engineer so sometimes he invites us to shows where we get to watch from the stage
And a couple times got to party with the band before or after shows these include Bush, Incubus, Johnny cash/ Train. ( I’m now spoiled )

So many people like to hate on John Mayer just based on the simple fact that he isn't Jerry and doesn't play like Jerry. We both know that nobody will ever live up to what he did exactly but I think Johnny is a good fit for the band. His style is definitely more blues/ pop influenced. But it works out beautifuly in my opinion. His up beat style makes you wanna dance every time. His rendition of shakedown street was one of the funkiest shakedowns I've ever heard. I was skeptical at first going to see them since most the music I listen to is live recordings of the greatful dead, but I was really impressed. At first I was just expecting a really good cover band but it's so much more. They are truly keeping the music alive I think. And at almost 80 Bobby and Mickey are absolutely kicking ass. I'm sure allot of it had to do with the sphere itself and how much engineering went into it to essentially create the ultimate concert venue. The accousitcs are truly unreal. As Trey Anastasio of Phish described, it's basically laser sound. They could be playing one thing on one side of the sphere and another on the other side and you'd be hearing two complete different things depending on where your standing. Anyways rant over. Always cool to meet other deadheads especially ones that like to fish!!

I saw my first Grateful Dead show in 1970 at the NYC Fillmore East.
I think Warren Haynes simply did not fit with Dead and Company.
First time I saw John Mayer in the band (previously a fan of his solo blues-based Stratocaster playing; but not particularly fond of his wispy voice), I was impressed significantly. He has pretty well nailed Jerry's tone and his extended scale playing.
I went in a skeptic.
Came out recognizing John Mayer as wholly worthy.

I missed that you said most of your GD listening is live recordings; however commercial, bootleg or other.
So may I ask as a Dead Head veteran; do you fully understand the iconic Dark Star from Live Dead?
A signature band song.
I'm a Bob Weir fanatic and think he sets this one up quite well on rhythm.

Dark star was actually the first song I ever listened to by the Dead when I was 15. Granted not a 20 min long "live" dark star but the one off of "What a long strange trip it's been." To me it's pretty clear the song is representative of the transformative experience brought on by well... You know. You might have a different take but that's mine.

There’s good arguments to both views of his death ….my buddy was at his last concert and claimed there was some weird stuff going on, like a send off for Garcia in simplest terms.
There’s a lot of strange rock star deaths that are riddled with some pretty compelling evidence that points to murder…. Illuminati is real.

I would again disagree.
Anyone who followed the Grateful Dead recognized for years he was killing himself with his lifestyle.
His death was in no way "strange."
Drugs and diabetes kill.

Not a fan of her music, but to me there's no doubt that Selena's family sacrificed her. There's been allot of strange deaths surrounding the family members of different artists. And in the Memphis rap scene, rap sigils have been around since the 90's. They'll go commit a murder record it and sample it into the song.

Just some more slight disagreement.
Both artists, just in my opinion, were "murdered" by unscrupulous MDs who charged outrageous money for opioids and worse that in no way would otherwise be reasonably prescribed consistent with their Hippocratic oath. (Do no harm).
I don't think it had anything to do with 'what they knew.'
It was just about abusive MDs, who I think may be currently facing criminal charges and license loss, and their personal bank accounts. Greed.
Additionally, I would assume MJ's passing in no way affected his beneficiary's rights to the Beatles catalog. His death did not impact control of the body of work rights. Someone still owns them. No change. The record company (Apple, Capitol?) in no way profited from his passing.

As a fan who recognizes him as a musical game-changer, at the level of Jimi, must have been the drugs.
