The Murr....and a couple old guys

Post by Mcfish »

I met Mr. Vinnybass at Murray this morning for a little post full moon fishing! Between the two of us, I think we have at least a 100 years of experience on the lake, so I figured we could put together some kind of a pattern! The lake started out glassy and calm and didn't take long to heat up. It took about an hour and a half for the busters to appear, but once they did, the fun began! We got a couple hours of topwater before the fish went down and the search began to find them. We found them in 25'-35' of water, so I brought out some chrome for a little spoon action. By 1:00 we were pretty baked, so we called it a day. I ended up hooking 14, landed 9, mostly fat little clones! I think Vinny was right behind me in numbers..but I'm claiming the trophy! Fun times were had!

The surface was like an oil painting when we got on the water and with the full moon I figured it was going to be a tough one.
Then the surface started to stir which took our minds off of melting as weather really heated up quickly. I told McFish I have
only been fishing reaction baits and not fishing the shoreline or tossing plastics. @McFish has tons of experience fishing Murray
over the years and the fact he stayed out in the middle of the lake with me and never once tossed his "go-to roboworms" made
it really fun. I am used to being out there far from shore but I could tell it was going to be a tough one today. I finally landed
the first bass while he missed his first few bites. Then McFish figured out some patterns and bottomline later went ahead in
the fish count. I had an 8th bass on that came unbuttoned that would have tied us at one point. I can still hear McFish laughing
not far from me but it was all in good fun. I also missed some bites(bummed about the ones missed on the hover bait), but
bottomline...I was out fished, by McFish.... 9 bass to my 7 bass.
What was crazy was there was not one single boat on the water and only one other float tuber. Tough fishing or just too hot?
Anyway...niice job out there Mcfish. It was fun and hopefully you will be returning to San V on Mondays and Sutherland on
Fridays, because Murray is such a far drive for you and look at all the gas you will save....ha ha.
Kidding....hope to see you soon back on the water. :-)

I have to post at least one bass....

Some good teasing was definitely going on! I think Vinny put in a couple more hours than he planned..trying to tie up the score! I think the heat was starting to make us a little wacky! I always learn some things when fishing with the Vinn-master! Good competition between my old school float tubing and Vinny's high tech kayak....still trying to get him in a tube!

It was so dang hot which can often trigger more aggression and irritation in people, but all in all we kept it pretty nice
as we were concentrating on trying to catch bass during a tough bite. What was really special was that each of us
showed real concern and felt bad when one of us missed a bite...........................(or was that just laughter?)
Oh yeah, another thing was that everyone knows I talk a lot, but McFish was a close second babbling on and on
sharing all types of fish stories but unfortunately there were no witnesses to back it up as we had the lake to
ourselves. :-)

When it is a tough bite, nothing high tech works as I worked my *** off trying to get bites and you showed me
by using your fishing experience, you found a pattern that worked even while fishing out of a darn intertube...ha ha
Its funny as I surfed for years when I was younger, but I am afraid of a tube as I may get to a part of the lake and
worry that I may not be able to kick back to where I started or lose a fin out in the middle of the lake. So for now
fishing out of a kayak or boat is my cup of tea. :-)

Funny thing is, tube is way more stable than a kayak is for me. Also way less “tippy” feeling even if you have good secondary stability in a yak. I feel like I’m fishing out of a giant inflatable pool chair lol

Tubing is an awesome way to fish but VB you are on to something with kicking back. Hit Barrett once in a buddy’s tube many years after my younger tube days and had to kick back to Pigs against a pretty solid wind. I thought I was going to die out there and nobody would find me for days 😂😳

I too will help with the get Vinny in a tube movement. Sadly however when he finally tries it, we will never get him out of it. I have on a couple of occasions found myself briefly napping on my comfy armchair tube. Oh and Vinny...BIXPY!

I had a decent morning yesterday at the Murr with all 6 fish coming courtesy of small 1/8 oz. Z-Man chatterbaits.

I saw some decent bass chasing baby bluegill up onto the bank..but Vinny made me fish out in the middle of the lake, so I had to prove that I could make that work! Been there, done that!
