Tough toasties on the D.K.

Post by Mcfish »

Perfect day for topwater..but they forgot to tell the fish! I picked up a small fish on the surface right away and that was the end of my topwater party. There was a few scattered breakers the next couple hours, but not worth chasing. I broke out the dropshot pretty quick and picked up a decent fish off some rocks and thought I was on my way to a good pattern! I proceeded to break off 2 nice fish when they shredded my braid on the rocks. Don't remember last time I broke off fish with braid. The next 5 hours was small fish torture with the fish grabbing and dropping, getting lots of lip hookups and then they would come off half way in. The temperature was bearable as long as the clouds and breeze cooperated. Around noon, the clouds and breeze disappeared and I called it a day. I ended up with 6 fish, missed some bites, had a bunch of shorties come off, and shredded some braid..but it was still a decent day on the water! Thanks to Fisheromen and Dannicus for the fish talk and taking my mind off the toasty conditions! I hope to see Mr. Vinnybass out there next time to keep me amused!

Wow, that sounds like a tough one. I don’t think I would have been too happy with the way the fishing sounded. It is a disappointment when you expect a good topwater bite and it’s not there. I’m pretty sure it’ll be going off soon and you will be enjoying the excitement of the surface exploding with those hungry bass up there gobbling up your topwater offerings.

I got one small topwater bite early on but it was a clone, and I lost a nice topwater fish in the middle of the narrows. Came unpinned right in front of my tube. Otherwise it was just like Mcfish's day. Small worm fish and had to work for those. Had 3 deer come right down to the water and graze though. Fun to watch.

The highlight was talking to Mcfish and Fishermen. Always nice to talk to others out on the water. Mcfish sure knows that lake well.
