Mission Beach was full of red tide again so took a chance on finding a parking spot at PB & got lucky. Low surf inside & good conditions, a bonus.
Usual dinkers around & leader was getting short from cutting loose several hook swallowers. Contemplated packing it in but decided to put on a new 2' leader with a #4, baited with 3 softie micro crabs and give it another 10 minutes. First cast this big boy hit in close, about 1.5' deep . . . made for a rewarding session.

Micro soft shell sandwich for the win! Very cool looking fish. The fins look yellowish like it may be ready to turn gold.

Yes, beautiful coloring of yellow & copper, a signal of spawning time. I forgot to mention that the fish was safely released.

Hey! Get outta my fishing hole.
… Beautiful fish… I love when they do the gold thing… That’s the bait combo that worked for me… Glad you were persistent and waded thru the perch to get the big boy… Congrats….. If he’s in that gold phase, I’ed stick around and look for the big girl he’s putting on the display for.. Again congratulations..

Hey Butch - I was straight out from the LG station & actually thought I might be darn near where you were. I started at South Mission but it was socked in with red tide so took a chance might find parking near Crystal & got lucky + water looked good. Two guys were fishing north of the pier & 2 more south so walked past them a ways to the LG.
You're right about those perch. Just have to be patient & keep putting a fresh bait out there until that big bean or spot get to your bait first. Sooner or later they do !
If you get down this way again, give me a heads up & be glad to meet up for a session.
