Re: Quality Over Quantity - Mid Summer Surf Report

Way to do, dude! That's awesome that you and the family got to work together to land that beast. As a dad who fishes with kids all the time, the chaos you described of the tangled line and not having all of your gear totally hit home for me. Fishing with kids is super stressful and awesome at the ...

Re: Quality Over Quantity - Mid Summer Surf Report

Excellent family fish!... Love the family fishing... And handing off to your 6 yr old shows what a good dad you are... Now, you've created a fishing monster out of him. ;) ... Look at his smile...

Re: Quality Over Quantity - Mid Summer Surf Report

Of course, his Spiderman line got tangled with mine and get reeled into my spool.

I am always amazed at how chaotic a fishing session with our kiddos can be before anything is even caught!! But, I wouldn't trade it for the world (I just plan for some extra early weekend morning sessions by ...

Re: North County trips.

Yesterday afternoon, I took a 6-pound test C-rig to Del Mar to catch ANY fish I could on the lightest line I have ever used in the surf. But the current and the kelp were pretty bad where I landed in the reef/sand section, and I was too lazy to move. I went the longest so far this summer without ANY ...

Redondo Beach 8/1

I found a few croakers, rays and this above average Corbina yesterday in close with soft shell crabs. Then this special guest star bit surprisingly hard.

Re: North County trips.

I fished the last 2/3 of the incoming tide this morning. I wanted to put in the work to find the elusive dime-sized soft shell, but it just wasn't happening, and the greylight was slipping away. So I fished the small crabs and had a good run of mixed sizes of perch and a baby leopard over about 300 ...

Re: Fletcher Cove - Solana Beach

You can blend the mussels with pulled apart cotton balls, then wrap the soaked cotton balls onto your hook, it works great. Outside of left field bait - Snails. Regular Garden Snails work great both in the Surf and Bay Fishing. Who would of thunk it? It was the Japanese Trout Fishermen at Anaheim ...

PB and MB 10-10

Got out today about 7:30-10:30

Incoming tide-middle
Surf very light
Salad was an issue but workable
Strong push to the south

If you needed ...

Re: PB and MB 10-10

Sounds about right cast right briskly walk with line briskly retrieve.
Was a total of 2 mins tops before recast lol

Also keep in mind the current direction on hard south the pier creates a break so you get less current closer to it. If the current flips north same concept with Jetty. I have found ...

Mission/Pacific Beach 10/11

Son and I hit up Mission/Pacific Beach Saturday afternoon and things were far more “normal” than they’ve been over my past few weekends of fishing. The tide was in, but heading out.

We got to Mission Blvd and turned right, deciding we’d fish where we found a spot and were, I think, technically in ...

Re: PB 11-7

Got out about 645
Heavy surf heavy salad
Incoming tide

Couple light taps early, waves were reaching the built up sand piles by 730. Due to load out I had to call it there. Moved over to the bay. Lots of literal garbage in the water.

Still enjoyed not touching a spreadsheet but 7'6" is ...

Lessons Learn from 2025; Goals for 2026

Hi all!

2025 was the my first year of surf fishing after many, many years of fishing freshwater around San Diego. It all started on a camping trip at South Carlsbad State Beach before Memorial Day Weekend. I'd joked that I was just going to eat what I caught, and brought a couple small poles and ...

Re: Summer-time fishing in March

Yahoo!!!!! I spent an hour casting at a school of about 6 until I finally tricked one to eat my fly. It's such a great feeling, especially when you lose track of the fly, when you feel the tug and see those big white lips open up.

Afterwards, some corbina showed up, and I had the first-world ...

Mission Beach 4/12

Fished peak high tide as it receded this morning, line in the water at 6:15 and stayed until about 8:45. Not a terribly high tide but I forgot to check wave/swell conditions and was susprised to see almost no waves at all when showed up!

Fairly strong northerly current all morning and the winds ...

Re: Summer-time fishing in March

Torrey pines is actually 3 miles away. You can also park at La Jolla farms and take a paved road down. It's still a little steep but you won't be taking steps up. Unfortunately it's a 2-hour time limit at top so it's really not worth it.

I've seen some social media footage of tailing fish at ...

Re: North County trips.

I took two skunks today, sort of.
I got a spot at the San Elijo campground, but I didn’t fish there. I went back to 27th Street in Del Mar for the first time. Never saw so much trough but there weren’t any fish in it. So, wanting to catch a fish, I went down to 11th, which hardly ever misses. It ...
