Pacific Beach 6/24
Hadn't been out to PB in almost a month so gave it a look this AM. South of pier half way to LG station; what a mess of junk on the beach and in the water. If didn't get bit in 3-4 minutes, line loaded up with grass/lettuce. Lots of sand crabs though everywhere. One perchie and after half hour ...

Re: Pacific Beach 6/24
Just a quick thought. I don’t know what the conditions were. Generally a lot of weeds come with swell. If it was after the swell and relatively calm, you can throw a Sand Crab under a Bobber. Now before you start laughing, the Bobber floats with the weeds and you give it the best drift you can. We ...

North County trips.
I've gotten four of these in three trips and pulled the hook on about the same number. Frustrating. Using bigger-than-average sand crabs, which are a lot of work to find. But there doesn't seem to be an alternative.

Re: North County trips.
Good size spot fin. Seem to be a lot more of them this year in the surf. They love those bigger crabs with roe, corbina too, if the perch don't get the roe first, LOL ! Bummer about the break off, always disheartening. Have you tried ghost shrimp ? Croakers & beans love 'em.

Mission Bay 6/27
Nice, calm evening on the water tonight! Bigger crowds as we get into the heart of summertime but still plenty of room to fish.
Reeled in four total perch between my daughter and I. One for me on with a sand crab on my new rod and reel (went with a Penn Squadron III and Spinfisher VI), three for ...

Re: North County trips.
What happened to the croakers? This won't be new to anyone except possibly to Mike, if so. But was it ever good?

Pacific Beach Tuesday July 1
I fished the surf Tuesday July 1 around 8:45-10:00 just south of Crystal Pier, tide rising from 8:55 0.6ft low. My first time out in about a month (had only one 15 minute session in all of June, which ended with a break off in a mass of kelp). Crabs plentiful everywhere, lots with roe. Grass was ...

Re: North County trips.
Krocodile is one of my favorites . You can use the single Siwash as supplied . I use a dressed treble that I tie that is almost the same length of the spoon . Just make sure the treble as it came from the factory has the single hook portion pointing to the concave of the spoon . Less snags . 5/8 oz ...

Re: North County trips.
Ah the Krocodile…..Baja staple. I like them when the surf is mellow, if the surf or currents are ripping, they still work but you can’t get that consistent sweet spot kick. I like trebles on the small ones either a feather or blank. Chrome with the chrome foil is my favorite. I’ll like j hooks on ...

Re: NOC 07/01/25
A bummer Butch to lose one like that. You'll get one I'm sure.
P.S. I'm still looking to even see my first corbina this year let alone get one !

Pacific Beach Wednesday July 2
I fished the surf about 9-10:30 Wednesday July 2 south of Crystal Pier over the low tide at about 9:30 at 1.3ft. A repeat of yesterday - light grass, low waves, plenty of crabs, slow bite, 3 BSP.
I didn’t mention yesterday in my post, thinking I was just being a wimp after not fishing for a few ...

Mission Beach 7/6
Been itching to get out, arrived around 6:30 and fished until 9:30 or so. Took a while to get any bites although I was feeling lazy and didn’t move much from where I set up. Ended up with three small perch on Gulp sandworms (blood) all caught very close to shore.

South Mission 7/6
On the sand at 6 am armed with blood worms & ghost shrimp. Was hoping the change in location and menu would get some better action than just hand size perch. Didn't disappoint. Very 1st cast with BW got an 18" corbina. Quite a few perch hits followed and nailed a few but bait stealers were winning ...

Re: Bonefish in the surf?
Plenty are caught up here in Orange County off Balboa Pier/Newport Pier. They are in obvious schools because generally several are caught in a short span of time then no more for days or weeks.

Mission and Pacific Beaches 7/9
Had a few leftover bloodworms getting ripe in the frig so headed out to MB this AM. Conditions not ideal, strong surge, somewhat dirty water & lot of salad. If not bit within 3-4 minutes, line loaded up with grass. Not that I was getting any bites, nary a nibble. After an hour decided to head up to ...

So. Mission 7/13
Little late this AM getting to the party but the fishies waited. As JWacky noted, started off slow, and real slow for me at least, not a bite for almost an hour. Perch bite kicked in around 8:15 and then this guy hit 2 soft shells piggy backed around 9 am. Nice to see JWacky get his first bean and a ...
