WIDE OPEN Winter Bonefish (video)
With Summer like weather for most of the month the Bay has been fishing more like March then January. Water temps are 3-4 degrees above where they would normally be and the fishing has been excellent on days with good tide movement. Had a fishing for Bonefish last week with close to 40 Bonefish over ...

Floyd and Flo spotted 2/9
Had a random day off today and decided to check a few things off the list. I patched a hole on the raft so I wanted to make sure it was holding. I got a new fish finder that I wanted to test out. I also got a DJI action camera from the Mrs. for Christmas. I wanted to get familiar with it ...

San Diego Bay: Tide Map was Wrong
Hit San Diego Bay this past weekend and Tides4Fishing showed it to be the worst day of the month (based on solar activity and yada yada) I'm a pretty firm believer in, fish when you can, but theres always that little voice that say "yesterday was better" or "the tide chart told you it would be bad ...

Re: San Diego Bay: Tide Map was Wrong
I wish they would either get a little bigger or tail in the shallow flats, but doesnt seem like they want to do either.Midnightpass wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 12:41 pm Love bone fish… I only wish they got as big as some of their cousins elsewhere.. nice fishing on good size bones…

Multi Species Day 2-28-2026
Multi species day south of the bridge this morning with a new first. A watermelon jack Hookup bait, a bronze blade bait, and a Laguna shrimp Zman TRD Ticklerz got spotties, halibut, lizard fish, and my first yellowfin croaker ever. Steady bite on the outgoing tide from 7-11. Could not have been a ...

Re: Small tide swings
Fish the South Bay flats, they don't seem as affected as much by tide swings. Hard to beat a jig head with a curly tail grub or a Ned rig, drag across the bottom. Small plastic and small hook (1/0 or smaller, even #4 is OK) is right for bonefish, they have small mouths. You might get corvina and ...

Zuniga 3/13
Fished with 2 friends again, solid 2 hours of daylight this time. Fishing very slow till sundown. Brown rockfish were biting, a few small calico. Highlight of my night was a decent sculpin on a craw bait.Beautiful evening and perfect weather for spotting birds on baitballs out at the point, no such ...

Water clarity and eelgrass
Have others noticed the bay seems a lot murkier with less eelgrass than previous years?
Lack of eelgrass can decrease water clarity since the roots hold in sediment that is otherwise stirred up by the tides. And there is a positive feedback mechanism in that poor water clarity reduces the maximum ...

Re: Species Day- Back Bay
Right on! those midshipman are such ugly fish. They look like aliens and have some nasty chompers.
Yeah one of my clients Brent Evans has the IGFA record but we have caught many that were bigger. He was one of those IGFA record hunters and really wanted to weigh it in. It's a pain in the butt to ...

Fee free fish
Cap and the fresh water’s been fun, but I decided to close to home today. I honestly had a bit of a rough session to start. Forgot my trolling motor battery at home, so had to put in the workout on my tube today. Then got on the water and realized I forgot my sunglasses in the car. To top it off, I ...

Check out San Diego Free divers web site . Attend a meeting , real bunch of spearo's . The name is deceptive if you are a dedicated Free diver . Good bunch of guys and gals . Re: private charter recommendations?
Over the years many members on the old SDFish have recommended Brothers Sport Fishing . If money is no object and a high end trip in comfort is warranted Game Changer is a first class outfit . There are so many choices its mind boggling . I fish my own boat so no help as far as experience with any ...

Re: Keep Mikey in your thoughts
Just a sad update, it was confirmed from Mikey’s family FB that a lobster fishermen found his body in Turtle Bay, just north of where he was reported missing. The family now has the closure needed. It hurts more that it’s so close to the holiday season.

Dorado zarrandeado
So I butterflied out a dorado to cook for my family's early labor day party. It's not a true zarrandeado since I didn't do it over hot coals but 45 min on the smoker and a few on the grill for some color does the trick.

Howdy there, forgot to post this trip. 4 days of bluefin hunting, no biters during the daytime really, some dorado but once we left the point we stayed north between the banks and San Clemente. Sinker rigs and jigs were the key. I had been given an Eddie bomb by a friend of mine from Openwaters ...
