Poaching

What has been the most egregious example of poaching that you have seen that you just had to call Cal Tip?

I saw a good one today.

I showed up to the local pond today, and saw a guy doing the following:

1. Using TWO hoop nets. He was baiting the nets with cut up bluegill.

2. Using a throw net as ...

Re: Poaching

DarkShadow,

Times have changed. Who fears getting caught or even tried for an offense. There is no fear for the law or regulations. He’ll get a slap on the hand and told to stop. It’s hard to not make this political.

One reason why it was time to leave.

Re: Poaching

Saw a guy with more than 80 HUGE ghost shrimp.
The guy swore he was gonna release the overlimit, but the warden rolled up on him when he got distracted by spotted bay bass.
Oh, wait, that was me.

Re: Bye-Bye Miramar!

I would imagine since they pump water into San V anyways, they would just pump it to the upper reservoir first. If anything, the new energy would just be putting a dent in what it already costs to pump water to the lake in the first place. Either way, “we” are paying

Your right it could be a 10lb anything, like a 10lb bluegill, crappie, salmon, tuna etc.

Re: Stuff Your Hear at City Park Ponds

I got another one:

Whenever you land a fish, someone always says, "Looks like you've got dinner!"

The other day, I saw some dude making a video for his YouTube Channel, you know, the one where everyone always say, "Like and Subscribe!"

I'm seeing more and more of that.

Jeff, show him the ...

Re: So long San Diego bass fishing......sort of

Update as of 26 June 2023 - The pond has lots of large bluegills!

After a couple of weeks of fishing the pond, there is an abundance of bluegills 8 to 10 inches. Also, with the water level slightly down (2 feet), there are fathead minnows, and the bass are still that 8 to 12 inches. I've started ...

Re: July 4th Fishing and Fireworks

Twilight cattle boats are always fun for 4th July. They’re usually not crowded. You get to see several shows and the bite is usually good. Plus the squid beds are here as well as nice yellows and seabass.

Re: San Vicente question

I was trying to rent a kayak for the day at San V maybe this weekend, but only with the sole purpose of fishing, are allowed to fish on their rental yaks?

I'm not sure if you can fish on their kayaks but I just wanted to say that San Vicente is a fairly large reservoir and there are many ski ...

Re: Stuff You Hear at City Park Ponds

How about when a huge carp boils?

"OMG DID YOU SEE THAT HUGE BASS!?" and then they proceed to run over there to cast their bait at the dissipating ripples.

Re: New Loveland Updates

Supposedly the Forest Supervisor is trying to schedule a date for the Alpine Community Planning Group meeting. Possibly as early as the end of July. That's something they don't want to do for sure so that's good if it happens. That claim was made by the Chair of the Alpine Group, He said Forest ...

Re: Tip of the day

My tips from last week's outing.

1. If your chatterbait doesn't have an immediate wobble on the first wind, you bought yourself a crap chatterbait.

2. When stripers are boiling, try throwing something underneath them. That's where the largies and smallies like to hang out and let the stripers do ...

Re: Tip of the day

Of course all of us have lots and lots of tips but one of the tips that just comes to mind is something my father taught me years ago when I was young.
Before each fishing trip, he taught me to always cut about a foot or so off the line and retie whatever you had previously had tied on your line. He ...

Re: Tip of the day

Good tip, I hate retying when I am on the water (despite being a good idea) but don't mind the day before. And most fish have at least rough edges in their mouths or gill covers that can abrade line.

Even largemouth bass have rough surfaces that will abrade line: https://tacklevillage.com/do-bass ...
