Re: South San Diego Bay for the last couple of months

Fly pattern colors haven't mattered as much most days with fly action seeming to be the discriminating factor on some days when a fly that had a greater tendency to drop vertically worked better than one that dropped slowly fell more on a slope.

Curious what factors influence how a fly drops in ...

Re: Perch at Blacks

Nice perch... Those shovels must have been a tussle on the fly rod....
Butch

I snagged so many last year, the first one I knew it was a SNG and fouled in the tail the way it was fighting. It was about 2 feet long. Second one was smaller but hooked underneath the nose, looking like it was almost ...

It's getting to be that time of year again for ...

... improving shore based bluegill fishing

Water is warming. Fish should begin spawning over the next few months.

If you are limit to being on foot and unable to fish deeper from a boat/tube/yak then the fish will be more accessible in the shallows in the morning and evening.

A couple from a two ...

Re: It's getting to be that time of year again for ...

Nice fish, but the rod looks beautiful.

The rod was custom made for the late Bill Stroud (of Stroud Tackle Fly Fishing) by a local custom bamboo rod maker who has since moved to Idaho.

It is a 7'6" 4wt, through I use a 5wt line on it for close range roll casting with weighted flies but a 4wt ...

I actually saw and popped my head in today with them! Was curious about what kind of flies you're using to target bass for Barrett as I have many trips planned this season there.

Hiking and popping

Burned a lot of calories, caught a lot of bass. Easily one of my favorite ways to fish

Re: Eastern Sierra fun!

I just got back from a whole week at Big Pine Creek. You are spot on about fall being the best time! There were maybe 6 people in the campground the whole time. No shortage of browns willing to bite. No fly fishing for me, but my coworker just gave me a rod and reel so I need to start practicing. It ...

Re: Eastern Sierra fun!

Great outing, Mcfish. I always look forward to your Fall reports from the Eastside. I'll be heading up this weekend for a quick trip, but I'll be flinging flies on some of the moving waters in the area. One of these years I've got to take my tube and hit the lakes.

Thanks for sharing.

Mission Bay Snooze-a-thon

Very slow day at Bonita Cove/Mariner's Basin this afternoon, just like the tide chart and barometer said it would be. But the rain kept the people away so parking wasn't too bad.
Only got a couple of spotties, but they averaged 13 inches.
One of 'em ate a bass jig (green football head, 4" spider ...

A browner shade of brown.....

South Bay Saturday.

Followed Gotfish around for a while on the Coronado side.

Managed 13 sbb, a short halibut, and the first one of these that I've got on a ScorcherZ tube bait (green).

And this one was much larger than any of the ones I've got on bait.

I put a throw float cushion on the seat to sit on. Plus a little more safety.

New tube ordered!

I finally pulled the trigger on a new float tube from Netherlands called Float Plus. Bladderless, dropstiched floor and seat, undermount motor ready, and they are installing the fold up wheels for me at no additional charge.

Of course I'll still have to glue on my fish finder mounting brackets ...
