First post: Four days on Miramar (12/28-12/30 and 1/3)
Hi all,
I relatively recently (late July '25) ended a roughly six-year hiatus from bass fishing. I didn't stop fishing in general, as I'm an avid fly fisherman and fish saltwater with conventional gear nearshore and within our bays from my paddleboard, but why I ever stopped fishing for green bass ...

Re: First post: Four days on Miramar (12/28-12/30 and 1/3)
Thanks for reading! I’ve talked to a few guys that have mentioned how awesome Miramar was in years past when the shad pop off. A couple of the 1-1.5lb clones I picked up in those session spit up some absolutely tiny ones. Probably could have fit two or three on a dime. Also spent quite a lot of time ...

Re: First post: Four days on Miramar (12/28-12/30 and 1/3)
Ha! No need to spend your daughter’s inheritance just yet. Aaron’s Magic and Aaron’s Magic with red/black flake both worked well for me and are usually my go-to at Miramar, but the green pumpkin/purple got the most fish for me on these particular days by far. Makes me wonder how much of a difference ...

Building back up…
Over the last week or so, I’ve been mentally prepping for some more freshwater fishing. I spent most of the summer in the salt, and after a few months away from my local ponds my confidence was really lacking. I also had a tough time justifying the extra drive time to hit freshwater when I had the ...

Murray 1/14
I threw practically the entire arsenal at them today. The final count was 8. Nothing huge, but all were solid 2+ pounders so I am not complaining. Every fish came courtesy of a tiny Megabass Griffon crank bait. They just wouldn't touch anything else.
Now watch, tomorrow I'll go back to the same ...

Re: 1-15 Miramar/Swimbaits/Fail...and cheating?
Hey, you’re outdoors on a beautiful January day in San Diego. If you fish it they will come.

Re: 1-15 Miramar/Swimbaits/Fail...and cheating?
Yeah I just can't see myself out in my float tube with arthritic hands and shoulders pitching swimbaits about the same size as my foot over and over, but I do admire the dedication of the guys that do.

Western Outdoor news claims they have stocked Trout and another on the way for MiraMar. Guess my plans have changed from fishing Miramar. Thanks for the report.

El Capitan 1/16
Had a great time at El Capitan today. 9 fish in total. I threw my new Berkeley Triple Minnow rig for a while, and got no bites, but to be fair, I really need to put in some time learning to fish it. It does look good in the water.
All 9 fish came on a NED bait on a 1/8 oz jig. They liked it when I ...

Re: 1-15 Miramar/Swimbaits/Fail...and cheating?
Interesting how bass will ignore fancy swimbaits that have been carefully designed to look like trout and other natural bait, some which cost over $100, but will eat a Senko which doesn't look like anything they have eaten. Or weird colors like junebug.
FYI, those bass have no trouble telling the ...

Re: 1-15 Miramar/Swimbaits/Fail...and cheating?
GOTFISH- I’ll weigh in here and say I’ve caught more Bass over 10 pounds on 5 inch Bass Assassin Style Plastics with a 3/16 to 1/2 ounce Jighead than all my other baits combined. I almost exclusively use ZMan Streakz now. Partially because I have gravitated towards them, mostly because they are much ...

Re: 1-15 Miramar/Swimbaits/Fail...and cheating?
I have mostly been fishing the bay but may try Miramar soon. I will certainly have my usual drop shot for bass but will also have subtle action minnow like lures with light jig heads i.e. I-motion, "do nothing", Ned rig, hover rig, etcetera. The Z-man StreakZ or Assassin could be fished that way too ...

River Monsters reboot..... negative 47 on Rotten Tomatos
A sunset walk in Mission Trails wouldn't be complete without a bass.
That is almost a bass. Homemade spinner. Got to check out how this year's storms affected one section of the river. Only actually fished for a half-hour, but got some steps....

El Cap (1/17) and Miramar (1/18) - New PB
Hi all,
Had a couple interesting days on the water this weekend. Got out to El Cap yesterday, and had a quick session on Miramar this morning where I got into a good one. Reports below:
El Cap (1/17): Showed up to a line at the gate again this morning. My first thought: not again! Last time this ...

Who’s ready for the best D&K season ever
I would like to say I’m surprised… but I’m not. It’s become pretty routine to not get your hopes up for our lakes in San Diego. I know it’ll be back up eventually but every single year I just get disappointed with SD lakes management. Maybe next year..
