8/2-Back to Lake Miramar

Last Monday when I was at Miramar I saw a few rumbles on the surface but had no topwater baits with me as I packed mostly worms and craw baits. A buddy also recently told me he caught a few on top this trip I packed a few topwater baits in my kayak. It was a little foggy when I arrived and headed ...

Re: 8/2-Back to Lake Miramar

2weeks ago the fish were busting in front of MO’s hole
Everywhere I fished the Ima long cast from shore and had 5 smaller
Next morning a big school of 3-5 lb fish going crazy
I had 14 all were nice and not the normal size
By far the absolutely best day of Topwater ever at Miramar

That is ...

Re: 8/2-Back to Lake Miramar

Of all your posts, Miramar just seems bleh. Hard to believe that it once held some of the biggest bass ever caught.

I also believe that all of the pure strain Florida bass ave died off and their offspring have a mixed gene pool with northern bass, that don't grow nearly as large.

Trout ...

Re: Natalie Park - Lake Miramar

Yes you can drive on the road around Lake Miramar but road ends at Carol Cove so you have to turn around and go back to exit. There are so many bike riders, walkers, joggers, people on skates, skate boarders etc. that you have to be really, really, careful. Sometimes you feel like you are driving on ...

8/7 Murray

Still did not see any topwater action......pretty strange as in the beginning of June it just started to go off and then pretty much died.
Drastic changes in the water levels definitely had some type of affect in the overall fishing as normally topwater action would be pretty
much wide open in the ...

Launchable?

Yes it is.....Launched my kayak the other week and no problem launching my boat this morning. I am still a little cautious remembering the time when the water was real low years ago and my buddy pulling his Skeeter boat up to the trailer hit a rock at the end of the boat ramp and ...

Re: A couple at my Home Lake

It has been a tough time for many up at your home lake......heck, It is not even on my thought pattern on Fridays as in previous years I fished almost every Friday when it was open. You caught 2 bass, which is the new limit I believe :-). Nice to see you catching a few and posting. Hope before your ...

8/9- Miramar again

With anticipation of hopefully more topwater action, I headed back up to Lake Miramar this morning with 3 rods rigged with
topwater baits and one with a small jerk bait. The surface was pretty glassy when I arrived. Finally a few small bass stirring the top of the
water. Everyone knows that by the ...

Re: 8/9- Miramar again

I think it was great you stuck with your plan and didn't go to finesse until the end. This year I have been forcing myself to use other lures and it's really paid off for me with poppers and stickbaits. I very much prefer the topwater bite, and I think I'm not alone there. :) Yesterday the ...

8/11- Missed opportunities are no fun

Took a rare drive with my kayak up to that lake that is 38 miles North & East of..........ok you guessed it, if you said Lake Sutherland. I decided to give it a try even though it has been really tough fishing this year for many and for me the last time I fished there months ago. I arrived and saw ...

Re: Revenge is sweet...

Nice job out there McFish as you pulled in quite a few very healthy bass. It was great to see that a number of fish can be caught after a very tough and unusual few months up there and I got to witness most of it. The next time... I am going to fish to the left of you early(where the fish were ...

Re: Better than Last Week

I've thought about fishing Sutherland, but I fish exclusively out of a float tube (living full time in an RV in my retirement it works for me!). I drove by the lake in early spring and it was windy, and I had no idea how I'd approach it, so I put it on the back burner.

I see you fish Murray quite ...

Re: Best Wind Direction ?

The way I learned (which could very well be wrong) is to fish the wind at your front, or blowing towards you. The reason being is that the top water current will blow any forage towards you and any fish looking for a meal will follow that forage.

I agree with you. When the wind comes up in the ...

8/17-Lake Mur...I mean Miramar

Thought about Murray, but instead headed up to Lake Miramar again for a morning of fishing with my kayak. I figured I would try to go get'em while I can because after Labor Day, there will be no boats, kayaks, float tubes allowed on the water I was told as they will be working on a big water project ...

...or hopefully Murray will be back to where it was a few years ago.
On a serious note...the high winds are what I am worried about.
Hope everyone is prepared as best they can and hope everyone stays safe.

Born and lived in San Diego all my life and normally root against any team that plays in LA, but still somehow I am a Charger fan.

Re: 8/17-Lake Mur...I mean Miramar

In the summer the bass have no problem chasing down a blade as they are in the shad eating mood. But if you find balls of shad the vertical works too. Traditionally in the winter months at Murray, I vertical jig a spoon and ice jigs in deep water and will be trying to use more blades this year. I ...

8/22- Miramar A.M. Bass Frenzy

Cheating on a person is bad and if going behind Lake Murray's back to fish Lake Miramar is bad....I am guilty. Headed up to Miramar once again with my kayak. It has been so much fun fishing up there and just had to go back. Had a little late start as I did not get on the water till almost 7am and no ...
