Re: Halibut Bite SD Bay

Nice video. No mediocre music in the background and good tips.

Replace the weight with a 1/4 ounce jig head and a curly tail or paddle tail grub and you get spotties in between the halibut, plus halibut will bite the grub too. And you can foul hook more rays if you are into that.

White seems to ...

Atmospheric Riverdance

Wanted to do a tide ride along the Coronado side of the big bay on Monday. Storm won't be here 'til Tuesday, right?

So I tied up some stuff and was ready to go.

Plan was to leave the truck near Crown Cove, portage to the Cays, and ride the tide down the bay, getting out ...

Cool Patterned Leopard Shark

Thought I’d share a few pics of this beautiful female leopard shark we caught yesterday. Some of the coolest patterns I’ve ever seen on one! The Leo’s are thick in San Diego Bay right now and we have been catching multiple each trip in the South Bay

De Anza Project (Fishing ban likely inbound)

https://www.sandiego.gov/planning/work/park-planning/de-anza

Comment period is ending soon on the 13th.

If you fish North Mission, or want to in the future, you will want to weigh in. I remember a few members of this board would get together back in the day for some good fishing fun up there, but ...

Re: De Anza Project (Fishing ban likely inbound)

Here is a site with more of a negative bent.
https://missionbayforall.org/
It mentions a ban on motorized boating, but doesn't mention anything on fishing. How is the city going to acquire all that land? Eminent domain?

I believe all of the land is already city owned. Some is leased out by ...

Backbay Report

Re: Soupfin(?) at TL

Size, eye shape (soupfin have a slightly larger eye), and mouth (smouthhound have sandpaper like teeth, soupfin have sharp teeth). If you catch a small shark like that in the bay chances are it is a smoothhound

Re: Soupfin(?) at TL

That's a pretty decent smoothhound. There are two species; Gray and brown. The browns have sort of a coppery color that aren't like other sharks. And I think the grays' dorsal fin is more transparent.

SoBay Tube day...Okay....

Fished with Gotfish in the South Bay.

I got 17 spotties and one corvina.

Pic for attention:

20240105_183458[1].jpg

The small greenish ScorcherZ tube baits got most of the fish, a few bit a texas-rigged powerbait grub in a candy corn color. Nothing on the bucktails, underspins, tailspins ...

4/13 Coronado

Got up to the bridge right before 11. Steady action on the trusty crankbait. Also got a nice corvina in front of Tidelands on the underspin. Definitely a good day by my standards. 19 spotties with only a few dinks, 1 short halibut on a lipless crankbait of all things, 1 corvina and even a needlefish ...

Variety at Tidelands Park

Floated Tidelands Park this morning from 6:00-9:00 with a steady bite the whole time. Drop shot robo worms on a 6lb ultra light trout setup was all I ended up using. Handful of spotties, yellow fin croaker, a halibut and a chunky Sargo.

Coronado Cays 11/16

First time launching the float tube out of the Coronado Cays was an absolute blast. By 5:30am, another float tube and I were out on the water and right away the bite was on. I've heard people say they’ve had incredible days out in the South Bay with almost 100 bass caught but I didn’t really believe ...

Re: SD Bay 12-7, slow

Went out of Tidelands on Sunday. It started out clear and then the fog rolled in. It ended up clearing out around 9am. Then the FOG rolled back in thick at noon. I couldn't see the Bridge from 200 feet away. The fishing started out slow but picked up around 8 and was consistent for the rest of the ...

Can we talk restrooms?

Couple of things.
If you fish the Coronado side, you may find yourself needing to access a restroom, after driving over the bay and drinking two cups of coffee. Some of the restrooms in parks don’t open very early.
Okay, down in the cays area, check the map for 101 grand caribe causeway. This is ...

Re: Mission Bay - stingray blues

Well that question seems to have no answers and leads to a bunch more questions. I imagine they simply out number and out compete everything to a degree because not much eats them or is big enough these days. Stingray populations have been rising according to this:

Re: Mission Bay - stingray blues

I have seen Juvenile White Sharks feeding on Stingrays in Bolsa Chica. This happened last Spring and after calling people over, a large crowd developed. It was a full on Nat Geo moment.
