Been bay fishing again.

Yep-

Rented a Skiff out of Coronado and fished the bay. Caught a legal Halibut [no picture as she wasn't cooperating] a sick Sculpin several deep spotties and a skiff pulling batray....We were looking for sand bass but to no avail.

Nice fish. Never had a ray make a run of more than a few feet. Often when hooked on a ray, I initially thought I was snagged on the bottom only to realize the snag moved slowly.

Tthe big ones can get up and go. We call them “Mud Tuna” up here in Newport. Great practice for real Tuna…

I got there around 3PM which was mid tide. I used a Carolina rig with 1" curly tail grub. 6 calico bass (no keepers) on pumpkin red flake and 1 (not a keeper) on translucent yellow with red flake. 1 opaleye on tan with black and light blue flake. Hit the south bay this morning and fished the big tide. Friend and I got about 70 spotties. Caught them on 1/4 and 3/8 jigheads and MC Swimbaits. Most fish came in less than 12 feet of water.
