Long time lurker, first time poster. Recently got into surf fishing as the tuna season is too far away and im antsy. First croaker ever, hit a strip of sand crab fishbites just after low tide. I'm hooked...

PR perch in Oceanside
Sometimes I fish for "other than bass", and this morning was one of those times. Lots of little nibbles on Carolina rig with gulp sandworms (sandcrabs were all still tiny babies)...and then bang not a little nibble, she took it and went. Fun battle and landed yhe biggest surfperch i have ever seen ...

Quality Over Quantity - Mid Summer Surf Report
Sight-fishing between Blacks and Del Mar has been "excellent" this season, except for the whole catching part. This year is the first time I've seen spotfin tailing in the surf, but almost like a first-cast-curse, I've only been able to catch the first one I spotted (pun intended) in late May, using ...

Thank you "jwacky" - Mussels worked great!
Hello all,
Had this entire week off, and decided to try "Jwacky's" suggestion for using mussel meat.
I bought a pack of frozen mussels from H-Mart.... What a WEEK!
I caught so many high quality fish! Slab perch, Giant smelt, and several BIG corbina.
I had 2 days with over 20 fish.

Lessons Learn from 2025; Goals for 2026
Hi all!
2025 was the my first year of surf fishing after many, many years of fishing freshwater around San Diego. It all started on a camping trip at South Carlsbad State Beach before Memorial Day Weekend. I'd joked that I was just going to eat what I caught, and brought a couple small poles and ...

Re: Lessons Learn from 2025; Goals for 2026
I really like this post. I wanted to get my son into fishing and I knew that taking him to freshwater would most likely result in skunk unless use bait. I don't like bait because of the smell, the cost, and the guy hooked fish. I also learned to spin fish in the surf this year. My son caught many ...

Fish the inlets(River mouths) at dead low or high Tide for those elusive Halibut. Use at least a 5 inch white Swimbait to discourage the “Potato Chips”. It’s all about the Tide and the bite window is short most of the time, sometimes it never slows down.

Mission Beach 1/25
Nice morning at Mission Beach, fished the low tide from 6:30 until about 9:00. Not much current, clean water with almost no seaweed whatsoever. Waves just high enough to keep things moving in the sand.
Nothing of note (quality-wise) aside from 9-10 perch, but I was catching them at a pretty steady ...

Re: Stockingfoot wader boots
I got a pair of diving boots for my new waders. They seem like they will protect the stocking foot. They kept my feet warm and never felt clunky like fly fishing boots.

Re: Stockingfoot wader boots
Get booties with thin neoprene, 3 mm or less. They slide over the waders much easier than thick ones. I use Force Fins for flippers which I like better than anything else I have tried. I have problems with longer fins breaking the surface which I think may spook the fish plus be less efficient. Make ...

Re: Storing gulp baits
Pretty much any thing you use will leak after awhile if you are using it on the sand... Sand will destroy any seal you have and make the bait container leak... I use old prescription pill bottles, and after a couple of uses toss out in favor of a new one... They don't leak, a bottle will hold 1 pack ...

It doesn’t matter with posting up information, there’s over 101 plus applicants for the prize(s).
It’s just the luck of the draw, granted, I have been to one so I’m a bit biased.
Good luck everyone, put in your fee!!

Barrett Lake May 7th report
Hi all,
Barrett is open for 2025 and it looks to be a promising season. Got on the water around 0500 and pedaled across the lake. Air temp was a chilly 50F, but the water was 62.5 F. First fish for me came 0517, Chuck had already gotten several by then on a jig. I was using a texas rig lizard and ...
