Morning bassin
Back to the camp lake this time in the morning. Made the mistake of taking a work call while fishing and of course got bit. Set the hook and it was a giant, tried to be calm and was mostly successful. Fought her for a minute or so, she stayed down and took some line...then came up to say hi, jumped ...

Re: 3/13- Lake Miramar
I was just thinking about Miramar thanks for the report.
Was the lake crowded and how was the water level?
OK.....I have noticed that every comment you make has questions in it. I am just curious and guessing you are retired CIA or had
a career with the FBI or are maybe just taking all the ...

Re: The grind
I didn’t start spotty fishing regularly until my 30’s. I have limited fishing time available so I can’t justify the likelihood of fishing all morning for a few bites. It’s been years since I’ve caught a decent green bass. I get “green” with envy seeing some guys on here but I know that it’s my ...

El Capitan 3/17
Had a pretty good day at El Cap, final count was 7, all jig and worm fish, but nothing big.
That will be my last trip to The Captain until they raise the water some. I got completely stuck in the mud trying to launch and wrenched both my old arthritic knees trying to get out. Our wonderful lakes ...

Cap the 16th
I trucked through the mud to fish. I was out there 2 weeks before and did really well with 31, checked out to the rock I use to fish on the regular that is out of the water now. I did even better this time. Fishing the shore to 15' deep. All types of shore line, but with rock was better. Fished slow ...

Great Murray day 3/19
Had a really good BFS day at the Murr. Final count was 24. The largest was just under 4 lbs. Most were in the 2-3 pound range, with a few dinks scattered in there. Even the short fish were pretty weighty with bellies bulging from shad.
The best part was that the first 11 bass were all on top water ...

Re: The grind
I started largemouth fishing legitimately in 1982. I moved out here from Colorado when I joined the Navy. I grew up a trout kid.
I've been on the grind for 40+ years, but there are some days, like when I get on a killer jig bite, or when a giant explodes on my top water offering that make the grind ...

Murray 3/19
Heard there were busters so off I went. Nothing busting, then Dan (Dannicus) showed up and flipped a switch. They were on big balls of bait. I watch Dan catch them on top water. I was throwing a flash J, topwater, my first was my biggest 4.19lbs. I took some pics of what was going on under the water ...

PB Trout
Went out last weekend to Santa Ana River Lakes and got this beast on hook up bait. I don’t really fish for them and this beat my previous PB by 6lbs. It weighed 8.32lbs. Super fun catch on 2lb test!

Learning to fresh water fish for my grandson
All my life I've been a salt water guy, had multiple boats, normally around the 21' range and I'd go looking for tuna. Sold all of that including my gear many years ago, my back just couldn't handle the pounding any longer (3 compressed disks).
My grandson has spina bifida so has a hard time ...

El Capitan Bluegill and stuff 01-24-26
Launched my kayak to have a look around at El Capitan with the electronics and light finesse spinning gear for sport. Because that's my thing lately.

Lake Hodges Variety Slam 02-16-26
Found these with either white or yellow crappie jigs in the main channel suspended 5 to 12 feet deep out in 20 feet of water. Always fun. The fish stayed suspended and feeding all day long with an approaching storm, and the associated barometer / pressure dropping. The catfish was up just under the ...

A little North - Newport Bay
I have been teaching some Bass Fishing 101 to a local neighborhood kid. He truely loves to fish! We started out fishing our local park lake and within a couple of weeks he was nailing Bass on his own. We practice knots, I show him how to work baits and basic rigging. Yesterday we went on his first ...
