Leo sharks in the bays

Post by Ace »

I have been fishing SD bay and Mission bay for around 6 years now and I have caught almost every species that frequents the bay. One fish I’ve been wanting to catch (that I have never caught before) is a good sized Leo. I was wondering if any of y’all have any general locations (or specific for extra points ;) ) to try for a good sized Leo from the bays. Any techniques are welcome too.

PS This is my first post

Thanks

They are a little harder to come by this year but can be caught all around the Bay. South of the Bridge is best. Anchor up along channel edges and fish fresh mackerel on bottom with lots of chumming. Cooler the water is the farther back in the bay you’ll want to be. Opposite when the water is warmer. Just south of the Amphibious base flats (Mile Square Flat) is a good place to start. In the winter you can sight cast to them in the shallows which eliminates a lot of the by catch you’ll run into elsewhere

Good luck out there, Sir.
