Travel rod recommendations

Post by ne_nik »

Going to be vacationing in San Diego for a few days and am hoping to get some fishing in the bays and catch local inshore species like bass and halibut. I am currently looking at travel rods and was just curious what lure range would be most appropriate for inshore fishing. Was leaning toward the Daiwa ardito M which is rated for 1/4-3/4 and seems like it can handle the majority of presentations used inshore. Or would the MH rated for 1/4-1oz be better? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum... I can't help much because I mostly surf fish with bait... Now, if your looking into that I might be able to throw a suggestion.. Good luck in your rod hunt and fishing when you get to SD...

1/4-3/4 ounce will work fine for fishing the bays from the shore. It will be good enough to cast 1/4 ounce jig heads with soft plastics or shrimp or squid bait on a drop shot or Carolina rig. The 1/4 to 1 ounce will work too.
